Rep Power: 22 | | | Xing Yi in confined space Hey guys,
Here is a nice clip of my teacher Alex Kozma doing Xing Yi.
You will notice that there is not a lot of forward movement in this clip.
It was taken in a extremely small courtyard and about 4 feet to the right of shot is another wall.
It is an interesting demonstration of how, although Xing Yi has a forward - running over aspect, it can also be used very effectively when imobile or when space is limited. http://www.ukbaguainstitute.com/video/xingyipromo.wmv
your thoughts on Xing Yi in confined space
Kindest Regards
Chris

Rep Power: 22 | | | awwwww - no one wants to play with christopher!
WELL ..... i think that one of the key features of hsing i is the abillity to issue force from zero distance, piercing the structure of the opponent from touch.
This is obviously very important in the confined space work.

Rep Power: 38 | | bear eagle all the way dude
running the dude down or not, doesnt really come into it - taking his position and ****ting him with it is what counts.
Wouldve responded sooner but have been out of town on business. |

Rep Power: 100 | | | side note...one thing I have always found interesting is from different styles and their forms the applications tend to be very much alike. watching the video (application part) the moves look a lot like other systems.
I would include other internal systems but not limited to Chinese.
To newer people this might be confusing because they may not see the fine points and see deflection redirection and counter.
nice vid ...thanks

Rep Power: 0 | | | well the beginning of the hsing-i stance which i saw was pretty interesting, but as for the moves are they actually conventional?
and as u all know hsing-i is all about moving forwards and never even taking one step so i would've liked to see some fighting chicken moves which are cool!
oh wait does this particular version incorporate the 12 animals? |

Rep Power: 22 | | | Please specify what you mean by 'convensional' ??
Xing Yi works on a set of combat principles, lines of force or intent. application is bread from these idea's to produce combat responce. in the video you see combat responce in a confined space, by using the 5 elements.
Xing Yi does move backwards, although the intent, force and power still is projected and applied forwards. (man that is hard to put across without it seeming contredictory!) This can be seen in many animal forms and linking form, where a back step is made but power and intent is still sent forward.
This style does have 12 animals, but the clip is from a disc on 5 elements.
Cheers
Chris

Rep Power: 0 | | | ohhh right, its on the 5 elements... i think it would've looked cooler by incorporated a combination of element and animal but yehh its was great! =]
and as for conventional moves, wat i meant by that was that with those moves in the clip are they actually possible to execute in a real altercation?
sooo CD01 im guessing from what u just said u are a practitioner of the shanxi hsing-i? |

Rep Power: 23 | | | Thanx for the vid.
As a new practitioner of Kung Fu (1 year) I love to see what other styles do. Luckily my sifu is very well versed in many styles and can show us what other styles may come at us with.
The only thing that kinda stuck out to me was that there was no coverage down low (for kicks)...but perhaps my lack of experience didn't allow my eyes to catch it.
Thanx again |

Hebei - Li Cun Yi line.
Both Alex and I have used Xing Yi in real altercations. I works very well. You wont see Xing Yi stand a trade, fights finish fast. In fact while teaching a private student in the park on sunday a russina guy came over and tried a few things. | “ | ohhh right, its on the 5 elements... i think it would've looked cooler by incorporated a combination of element and animal but yehh its was great! | ” | |
This was an instructional vid on Xing Yi 5 elements and linking them together.
Alex doesnt teach the animals for many years.
The 5 elements are all you need IMO. I get this view from attacking Alex with whatever i chose and always instantly being in deep pain, simply from 5 element powers.
Jumping into the animals too quick will just give you more fighting stratergy in an external movement sense, but without being able to apply each of the 5 elements (their line of force, the energetic power and the stratergy of their combat method) completely and effectivelly from zero distance with ANY body weapon, the 12 animals will lack depth.
of course others dont train the same way we do and thats fine, each to their own ya know !
Kindest Regards
Chris

Rep Power: 22 | | | he tried to hit me a few time and i threw him to the ground or locked him up. he then praised me, appologised and walked off.
I was very gentle with the guy, I didnt want to hurt him just because he was being silly - there was no need.
Its good to know you dont need FULL FORCE all the time.
Thats what you get for teaching martial arts in a large public park!
no big deal really
regards
Chris
