Rep Power: 100 | | | Today's action has just wrapped up, and it was another exciting one! A lot of solid Sumo leading up to the main bouts everyone is really waiting for.
Hakuho won a long, hard-fought match to remain undefeated and looking more and more like a lock on that Yokozuna promotion.
Yokozuna Asashoryu faced Ozeki Kaio and.........lost! for his third loss of the tournament! Again the cushions fly! Now there is no way for the Yokozuna to win the tournament and it is Hakuho's opportunity to make that promotion!

Rep Power: 100 | | | Day 14 and Hakuho wins again to remain undefeated and almost certainly on his way to Yokozuna promotion!
The only current Yokozuna, Asashoryu, lost again, making it a shocking three in a row and four overall for the tournament. He is officially in a slump now!
One of the guest announcers today was none other than former Yokozuna Musashimaru himself.

Rep Power: 100 | | | and that's all she wrote! The last day of the May Basho was full of excitement. Lots of good, strong Sumo all around. But the match everyone was waiting for was Yokozuna Asashoryu vs. Ozeki (and would-be Yokozuna) Hakuho.
It was a great match, with both men really digging in and giving it their all. It seemed there was no love lost between the two fellow Mongolians.
Finally Hakuho pulled out the win with a nice overarm throw to win the tournament with an undefeated 15-0 record and put a lock on his promotion to Yokozuna!!! It is the first time an Ozeki won promotion to Yokozuna with a perfect record tournament win since 1994 when Takanohana (one of the all-time greats) did so.
Again the cushions were flying and the crowd going wild. Hakuho's mother and father were in the audience, having made the trip from Mongolia. They were just too thrilled; especially his father, who was the equivalent of Yokozuna in Mongolian Sumo back in the day. Behind the scenes, Hakuho's new bride and new-born baby daughter were waiting.
A dramatic and eventful tournament, and one that signals a new day in Sumo as the previously feared and dominant Asashoryu now finds himself with a real rival for the first time since becoming Yokozuna. Both men are young, so this could go on for a while.
Until the July Basho...Sayonara!
