Rep Power: 5 | | | Jutsu is the Japanese term for "technique, method, or skill". Karatejutsu really just means the empty hand method, whereas karatedo is the way of the empty hand. Its not really a particular style of karate or anything. However, some would say that "jutsu" refers to a more traditional application based approach and "do" is more philosophical/art based.

Rep Power: 17 | | | This may sound dumb but we have alot of guys out here that teach "Shaolin Kempo Katate" as in a style of its own. I'm alittle confused because Shaolin is chinese, Kempo and Karate are Japanese, but they are pitching it as an old ancient style. More so, when I looked in on these classes, they were identical to old karate katas I did, but put out there as different from it. When I politily said that that was not what I was looking for, I'm totally a Shaolin guy, they showed me their Shaolin part of it. A modified Longfist that went in a "T". I was dumb struck and politily bowed out. Another school teaches "Karate Tai Chi", when I asked to see it, it was nothing more than a standerd Karate Kata really slowwwwww. So, I guess what I'm getting at is this style even real or just something alot of people package together to try and get heads in the door?

Rep Power: 220 | | | It's just made up, there is no such style other than what some guy threw together and added Shaolin to market it to people wanting to learn Shaolin kung fu.
It is Ke?po Karate, but little to no Shaolin what so ever

Rep Power: 17 | | | That what I thought!!!! I ended up talking to the kid that showed me the "Karate Tai Chi" and tried to explain to that it didn't exist, but if it works for you more power to ya, just do some research and prove me wrong. He went back to his Sifu (or what ever he calls himself) and said that some kid down at Gamestop (were I was working at the time, with a guy that wasa brown belt in Ninjisu and a guy that was a black belt in Karate, both told him the same thing) was bashing our school. Well his "Sifu" sent an inforcer to gamestop to kick my butt, I wasn't there at that time but the Black belt was and laughted in his face and told him to get out of the store or he was calling the cops. A few days later the first kid came in again and I was like "Your Sifu sent an enforcer to my work, you don't see a problem w/ this? You really need to rethink who you are taking lessons from!!!

Rep Power: 5 | | | Actually, there is a karate style from okinawa called shorin ryu and another called shorinji kempo. Both are valid styles and "shorin" is japenese for shaolin. There was actually a cover story on the fighting (japanese) monks of shorinji kempo in blackbelt magazine some time ago. Okinawan karate is heavily influenced by chinese styles, such as white crane for example, as the islands that make up okinawa are proximal to both china and japan. Japanese karate is okinawan karate that was modified to be taught to japanese students in universities. At the time when okinawan karate was being introduced to japan there was a high level of resentment toward anything that was chinese. So they incorporated philosophical/ranking aspects of judo and kendo so that the japanese would accept it as more of their own. They even changed the name from "china hand" to "empty hand."
But this doesn't mean that what mei hua said "some guy threw it together and added Shaolin to market it to people wanting to learn Shaolin kung fu," isn't true either.
