He practiced under ice cold waterfalls and hit trees to toughen his knuckles and lifted heavy rocks to build his muscles. Pretty primative methods but effective. You have to say that he was dedicated to what he was trying to accomplish. He was also a pilot in WWII.

I'm sorry though. It sounded like you said the Honbu says osu. But then it seemed like you said only over here they say that.
I'm probably just reading it wrong, but could you explane just a little bit more.
Thanks. OSU! (respectfully though) | ” | |
Mad respect to the shed-dojo. I got my start in my basement-dojo, and I currently working on my roomate to agree to a living room-dojo. He's never around, and we rarely have guests, so I don't see the problem (Need to run it by land lord-sempai just to be safe).
Also, are you sure you mean "osu" and not "ush!" (literally, "yes sir"). Said with and accent these two words can sound almost identical. By the way, my japanese is garbage, I'm just curious.

Ha. yes land lord-sempai will deffenately need o know lol.
But really. Eventhough I don't have the luxery of a real dojo, I'm still thankfull to have a place to work out and not have people getting in the way.
No. I do mean Osu!. On many different forums I had the same conversation about this word many times.
I first learned it on one of my dvds. the sensei only defined it as a word of respect.
I read about it and found out that it was a word sortened from the original ohaiyo gozaimasu ( polite good moring). It was common among gangs and athletic groups. it is spelled with the characters for push and suffer. I think because of this and its use in athletics, it became popular in karate.
I have never heard the word "ushi" but thanks for the new vocab. I know I will use it when I learn Japanese. OSU! |

Rep Power: 10 | | | check out the Pimsleur method. It won't teach you how to read or write, but it gives lots of conversational vocab and grammar.
Also, I think the guys in "Human Weapon" trained a little bit of kyokushinkai, but I'm not sure. Did anyone tape the episode?

Rep Power: 29 | | | Hey, I applaud you for all of your excitement and dedication to your art.
I'm a huge fan of Kyokushin Karate and have been at my local Kyokushin Dojo for a few weeks before going back to college. I went there mostly for the sparring but it was relatively fun learning the Karate katas and cross-training, not to say also discussing MA with people who do a different system and able to discuss martial art fundamentals, philosophy, and the likes.
I plan on going to the Kyokushin Dojo again a few times a week. Again mostly to spar practitioners from other styles, but it was great fun and complimented my CMA and general striking skills greatly.
See you around,
-Miluo

I always believed that kyokushin helps people in many ways.
But that could be said with most of anything. |

But finding full contact traditional martial arts seems to be hard these days.
