Today, on the 14th day of the Natsu Basho in Tokyo, the Ozeki Kotooshu secured enough victories to win the tournament. This marks the first time ever a European has won a top-rank professional Sumo tournament. The giant Bulgarian's father was in attendance at his first ever Sumo tournament to see his son reach this milestone. A very emotional event for all involved.
The next goal for Kotooshu will be to see if he can maintain his winning ways and make it to the pinnacle of the sport - Yokozuna.

It was great to see his old father there (who had been looking very 'out of place' all day) holding a small Bulgarian flag in one hand and being surrounded by Sumo fans all shaking his hand and congratulating him. He looked like a mighty proud Papa.
