I think we've got at least 3 recent threads on how belt rankings are meaningless so if anyone wants to debate that, head to one of those.

yeah...that was meant as a joke. I'm not going to sit here and pretend I don't have my yellow belt certificate hung up on my wall.

yeah it's weird...
you feel like protecting him, but at the same time you feel proud because he doesn't give up
as far as I know there are yellow, orange, green, blue, brown and black
with 10th dan as the ultimate max
funny thing is that for every belt exam you have to do *all* other stuff as well, and if you fail at the basics you can just as easily lose your belt again....
black belt exams take a looooong time

Rep Power: 10 | | | just out of curiosity, what made you decide to sign your kid up for Kyokushin in the first place as opposed to a style that doesn't do brutal type training/testing?

in the first place: he wanted it
and second: there are two karate schools around, both are kyokushin
and 3rd: I train there myself
and 4rd: one of his instructors is my best friend
it's not brutal IMHO
it's a test of character
training is hard on wednesdays and playful on saturdays
they're still kids ya know...

Rep Power: 39 | | Thats awesome to hear. Basically all the schools ive seen with kids programs are usually very very playful in nature and not to hard of train. My school actually falls some where in between I think but its great to hear that about yours! |

Confidence and Strong Character are just the things they need as they grow. Kyokushin too, nice one!
Congratulations to you and your little man. |
