kali anyone?

I'm just curious as to how many ppl here train in Kali?

I met a member here in Boston from another forum, and he's traind quite a bit in Kali. I must admit i was impressed with some of the techniques he showed me. I was actually impressed with all of his martial arts knowledge. He's traind in China,Thailand, and many other places, he's even fought Muay Thai in Thailand. He's competed in San Da Tournaments in China also.

Among his Thai and Chinese arts training he's done Sambo,Ju Jitsu,Bjj,Kali, Systama (sp) he really knows his stuff, but what really surprised me was the no nonsense attacks of the Kali he showed me. Not only were the techniques applicable ,but they were brutal as well as simple to apply.

I have alot of respect for Kali now, not that i didn't before, but i had never seen or knew anyone that knew the art. I'm going to be working out with him daily once i settle in here in Boston over the next few weeks. He's also looking to do some fighting soon. For him it's a return to the San Da/Muay Thai ring for me it's my venture into NHB.

In anycase i want to here if anyone here has any Kali knowledge or experiences.

he showed me several Kali takedowns and throws as well as there groundfighting, which really can't be called groundfighting in the BJJ sense. I mean they will go there with you ,but they're not looking to submit you.

Did you ever study any of the Kali or workout with any of them?

I'm gonna train with this guy in the Kali and other stuff to help get myself back into shape. We're also going to do some grappling since that's actually in his words his strong point. But he does have a knowledge of different styles FMA,CMA,JMA, which he also teaches along with the Muay Thai, Sambo, and other arts.

studied many years, taught it for a little over 4 in my school, I still teach a lot of it
I refer to those arts in a lot of my posts and have said several times if you want to learn to fight well and learn fast and want to know how to use a variety of weapons and empty hands then Kali is the art to study.
