Rep Power: 153 | | | Sleepless night... So last night honeybunny & I rented "A History of Violence" and settled down to watch it. Good flick, but halfway through it we're interrupted by lots of heavy feet coming up the stairs and then "BAMBAMBAM" -- it's a fireman pounding on our door asking, "have you seen Tom?"
Tom is our elderly landlord who lives on the second floor. We say no and go out onto the landing, and the house is swarming with fire & policemen all looking for Tom. We go downstairs and can see a trail of blood leading from Tom's door, down the stairs, out the front door and all over the front steps, then the trail just ends.
Well, our first-floor neighbors had come home just a few minutes before, seen the trail of blood, and freaked out (just what I would do). Called 911 and now everyone was hunting for Tom.
About 5 minutes later our neighbor from across the street came home, jumped out of her car and says, "It's OK, I just took him to the hospital." So emergency over, the police go home, but I spent the rest of the night trying to call the hospital & find out about him, no luck.
And real late/early this morning, Tom came ambling up the stairs as energetic as ever. "What happened?" we ask. "Oh, I just had a bloody nose." Well, a really bad bloody nose, apparently he popped a blood vessel or something and his nose is completely packed with gauze & some foam doohickeys for the next 3 days.
I asked, "Why didn't you call us, we were right upstairs?" "Oh, I didn't want to bother you guys." Great. So he dragged himself across the street, bleeding profusely (his shirt front was completely red with blood), on the off chance that his neighbor would be home, because he didn't want to interrupt our movie.
Geez.

In my old apartment bldg, an elderly lady who lived across the hall from me locked herself out of the house and stood outside waiting for her husband to get home, in the dead of winter! Although she wasn't bleeding, which is much more serious, she didn't have to wait in the cold, you know? I felt so bad when I was leaving the apartment the next day and her husband told me about it. When I asked why she didn't knock, I would have let her wait in my house, or we could have gotten in touch with the mgr., he siad the same thing,"she didn't want to be a bother..." Geez is right. |

Rep Power: 153 | | | Yeah, it was an "AAAHHHHHH" moment there.
Talked to him yesterday, he went back to the hospital Friday because the bleeding never really stopped. Luckily there was a specialist in who knew how to get it stopped and also repacked his nose better, so he can breathe out of one nostril at least.
Then I helped him program speed dial on his cellphone so he doesn't have to hunt around for anyone's number. Won't stop him from being stubborn, though!
