Learning Japanese is fun

I just started learnign japanese about 2 months back. It's been cool 2 months... Not learning the ideal way(like starting with kanji and grammer and other boring stuff). Most of my education is coming from Anime which I love to watch(my main reason to learn japanese too).

I don't like to brag, but I can understand small conversational lines and basic japanese after 2 months. it feels great when you are watching anime and you can point out lots of things they are talking...

Reading Japanese is really tough though... I still havn't got command over basic written vowels and consonants in hiragana/katakana.

well the point is, I never realized that learning languages can be really fun. I've been learning English(my 2nd language) from my childhood.. which I never found it fun...

is there Anyways else here learning new language?

nope...
besides what people think of me, I HATE learning languages and I'm really bad at it as well...

know a little of a couple of different languages tho and that's more than enough for me...

Learning languages is always more 'fun' at the beginning, because from zero to well, anything, is a huge improvement. As you go on you start to see how long the road really is.

Studied Japanese in college for a year, but it's been almost 10 years now so I've forgotten most of it.

Our instructor drilled us intensively on hiragana/katakana and I can still recognize & remember the differences between the two, if not the entire alphabets.

Right now I'm doing a home-study course in Mandarin, but of course it's going very slow.

aw, it's fun and painful: French, German, Spanish, Hebrew, Greek, American - keeps ya on ya toes. You do go through pain barriers, frustration and so one - like MA. And, unless you actually live in the country you can easily deceive yourself about how good you are (I am starting to sound like Cam, but it's true)

Hey good for you TKDwarrior, japanese is an amazing language, iv been studying it for 5 years now through my highschool and now college, I know its boring and painfull to do, but you should really get yourself a copy of the katakana and hiragana charts and just practice them over an over before moving onto kanji, it just gets more complicated. I would also recomend JSL : Japanese the Spoken Language .
i found that is an excellent way to learn japanese from the basic stuff up.
Of course, if your only purpose is to understand anime, then maybe not so nescasary, but for real conversations, its important to learn things like Direct form and Distal (polite form) or else japanese girls will feel wierded out if you meet em and use direct form, its like being hugged by a stranger

But Good Luck! its a great helper in meetin new japanese people.
let me know if yah need help with naything

I hear ya Unk. It happens with me a lot of time when I start out new things with Big bang lol

S_T I have some Japansese friends over here, so I am not much worried about picking up their accent and language or getting overconfident.

Topo I am learning polite form and trying to recoganize formal and polite equally. I noticed most anime use very formal language. I do have charts. In fact I got all these charts and loads of stuff from this site for free...

One of my freind got Rosseta stone.. It totally went over my head though. How do use that thing?? well I'll stick to Books, audios and anime

I really enjoyed studying Japanese too. More so than French, Spanish, Chinese.... One thing I find funny is that men and women have different inflections which I haven't discovered. So when I have learned phrases spoken by a woman (say on a CD) and repeat them I get laughed at. It's a subtle difference but very obvious if you are skilled at Japanese.
