What do you guys think? We push our children to become great basketball players, hockey players, football players, boxers, academic scholars, religious persons... how about cage fighters? I have a four year old daughter and a two year old son and cannot see myself teaching my kids "early" that fighting under any circumstance is exceptable? Any thoughts? |

Rep Power: 36 | | | Leave it to Missouri. Some of the damned soft spots on these kids' skulls havent grown in good yet...if anything--the fact that these kids are probably already screwed genetically aside--as these kids get their sponges pounded on in the tender years, this is just gonna produce more braindead adults in the USA. Woo! Trailerparks, Natural Light, Weenie Roasts, Crystal Meth, and impromptu cage matches in the chicken coop!! WOO-HOO!

While I definitely hope my son gets into martial arts early on, theres little chance Id be persuaded to allow him to do cage fighting; my preference would be that he uses martial arts as an outlet, a way of staying in shape, learning more about his body, and how to defend it, and neutralize threats without hurting or getting hurt. If he does cage fighting, its only because he will be old enough to make those sorts of decisions for himself. |

Rep Power: 4 | | I saw a thing on the Today show this morning pertaining to this subject. I think that children under 10 shouldn't do any cage fighting, and should wait untill at least 14 when their bodies are more developed to handle the pressures of cage fighting.

Rep Power: 36 | | Already a thread about this, here. However, this is the most moronic thing I have ever heard. In the case of kids' cage fighting, it definitely is more like human c*ckfighting...you thought soccer moms were bad? Wait till you get a new breed of "Cage Fight Moms"! Instead of minivans, it's old beat up Cougars or trucks with tractor tires on em. Instead of packed lunches of turkey sandwiches and vegetable crudites, it's a paper bag full of cheetoes and cheezy whiz. Instead of the supportive cheers from the sidelines: "Go Jimmy! Way to go, good pass!", it will be: "Wudd-I-tale-yew, Jimbo?! Headbutt the lil bastard! Yew dont win dis fight I'll whip your damn ass!"
These parents need to be locked up in a cage with some real cage fighters.

I've already seen the "ugly parent" at light contact sparring matches. Any sport, really, where the parents start to equate their own success with their kids' success at said sport, gets like that.
Cage fighting isn't the problem, it's the attitude toward it and the risk of participants developing negative attitudes (you know, MMMS -- MMA motor-mouth syndrome).
Youth hockey is just as physically dangerous if not more so, but try and stop six-year-olds from playing it up here.

This inbred O2 waisting pile of bile is exploiting his kid so he can look like a bad ass and make money. Sad, but others will involve themselves in this right along with toad stool. This will no doubt bring down some heat and questions at the very least about MMA and Cage Fighting. I think every bleeding heart wannabe famus for finding the largest self reproducing slug Type will take time out of his busy schedual to focus on this sport. They will be asking how people are arrested for permitting dogs to do this but we allow human beings to participate. It's not to the death but "Oh So Brutal" as some put it. For sure a sad day.

Congrats on the child PlumDragon. It's the best thing that could happen to a man I say.
On topic.
It can't be smart to teach our children the concept of brutality at six years of age. Obviously their are physical risks here but what about the mental dangers? Children know what we teach them plain and simple. Teach them to be brutal, even if only in competition, and they will have the capacity to be brutal at all times. You can also bet that as these children develope mentally and grow physically that they are going to become much more efficient at "fighting" being brutal. Thats all America needs, a bunch of ten year old Anderson Silva's. What a mistake. |

Also, immature cranial sutures and epipheseal plates preclude kids from plyometrics and other exercises and activities in most sports, why not martial arts???
