Rep Power: 81 | | | Olympic Wushu Hi All,
Do we have any confirmation on Wushu in this Olympics? If so is there anyway of getting schedules of events?
Having Kungfu in the Olympics is a very marketable Event for those of us with Schools. We should try to take advantage of it.

When people expect one thing and see another . . . well you know. When they realize they won't be learning backflips and 720 degree tornado kicks.

Rep Power: 153 | | | There's no wushu in this Olympics, not even as a demonstration sport.
Instead they are holding an international wushu games just ahead of the Olympic games.
The reason is -- well the official reason from the IOC is that there are too many sports in the games already.
The semi-unofficial reason is that during the event where IOC observers would determine its eligibility as a demonstration sport, wushu coaches were bribing the judges right in front of the observers. (As reported by Gene Ching)

Rep Power: 35 | | | But in the opening ceremony there is going to be Chen Taiji & Shaolin monks there I believe.
I met the guy in 2001 (if nothing changed) in Beijing that's responsible for putting CMA in the opening ceremony. He married into the Chen family (CZL's niece) after studying in the old village school for 15 years. He teaches at Temple of Heaven Park, south road. Name is Qiang... check him out if you ever get over there.
I also heard that Zhong Luo's dad (at one time) was up for the job of doing the Lion Dance coreography too. Don't know if that panned out or not though...

Doubt it unless they bring in Southern Lions. The Northern Lions are boring & IMNSHO silly. I've lion danced too long to be impressed except by outstanding lion work & don't mean jong work. Show me solid, traditional Futsan or Hoksan lion work. The jongs, again IMNSHO, the modern wushu of lion dancing.
Zhong Luo's dad does both. He's better known for the jong work at the WFH Museum. I don't know if he's still coaching there though.

Rep Power: 41 | | | Yea, I saw a list of all the sports that are happening and Wushu was nowhere to be found.
The opening ceremony was amazing. Pity it was all built on the backs on unpaid slave labour. But, oh well, can't have it all.
