Rep Power: 100 | | | What is the deal with abstract art? How stupid is abstract art? If I want a picture of an apple, I want a picture of an apple, not a bunch of blobs of color that have nothing to do with apples.
Or some mish-mash of random colors and images that are supposed to 'suggest' some emotion or universal truth or some such nonsense.
If an artist has something to say he should just come out and say it already without all the cutesy 'interpretation' and 'hinting' at stuff.
It's pointless and annoying.

Rep Power: 100 | | Abstract art sucks.
Like this one:
It's just a bunch of crappy squares, and the lines aren't even straight.
And this is supposedly "art" as well:
Seriously? My 2 year old could paint this.

Especially the ones that could also be done by a two year old.

Rep Power: 41 | | | Yes, but that is just one side of the coin. The various Abstract techniques used by Concept Artists, for designing creatures, worlds, vehicles, people, etc. that we all enjoy the final product of, are extremely advanced and impressive. This stuff here is Po-Mo Wankery.

Rep Power: 111 | | | I agree with Wingnut. Some abstract is really cool, and in Escher's case he could draw things that would be impossible in reality.
But beauty is always in the eye of the beholder.

When it's like the stuff posted earlier with the dot on canvas etc. , but a lot of great art starts in the abstract realm. For example, these ( look below ) images were all created through abstraction, then worked on in abstraction until the artist's imagination reveals potential for an image, then they refine/render the image so that everyone else can see what's in their twisted mind. It is a technique used by many of the great concept artists like those who create alien landscapes, unique characters, etc.
These pictures were actually abstract art for most of the process, then refined once he decided what direction the image should take. The artist is Andrew Jones ( AndroidJones ) and he's extremely good.

Rep Power: 53 | | Some works of abstract art fascinate me.
Others (like the blue one KFK posted) definitely are "This is famous...Why?!?" and I really don't get.
But there is definitely some very cool abstract stuff out there...

This one is just nuts: Cocaine by ~MyMorphine on deviantART
A lot of the stuff I do is considered abstract I guess... and sometimes I do feel like a 2 year old should be able to do it.
Basically, it is totally relative.

Rep Power: 20 | | for the post makes and KFK:
Abstract art is all about the colors and emotion display.
Only a true artist can understand.
You see certain colors release certain emotions.
Like shades of blues give you a soothing relazed feels as to velvet red might give a more romantic feel.
The pieces you guy have chosen are poor examples of abstract art here one that is more suitable. I mean look at those wonderful color choose and very clean and cut. I doubt any 4 year old could paint that it takes a lot of hand eye coordination.
You all lack an artist eye, if you can't see true art.
There is good art and bad art and so abstract art isn't as good s others.
