Learning Fluffy Stuff is Tuff

It has recently been brought home to the writer from highly authoritative sources (other dragons' list threads) that Chow Gar is falling way behind as a TCMA. In fact, if something is not done soon about this alarming decline, Chow Gar will no longer be able hold its head high as the proud TCMA style that it once was.

The problem is that as a traditional art Chow Gar has fallen way behind on its Fluff Technique Quota Percentile ("FTQP") that tells a TMA where it stands in the world. The all important FTQP threshold for a TMA is 89% with 80% being a pass, and the desired quotient an impressive 98%.

A 98 FTQP rating puts a TCMA in the top bracket of TMAs.

Clearly not enough has been done by previous masters, instructors and students of Chow Gar in adding Fluff to their Stuff over the last century or so. In fact the decline has been so dramatic that some commentators and experts have assessed Chow Gar's FTQP at an embarrassingly low 10% with some surveys saying the FTQP may be as low as 7.3%. One particularly harsh report rated Chow Gar's FTQP at 0%. However the writer considers that report to have been particularly malicious, and discredits it as having no real foundation in fact.

Chow Gar's true FTQP is difficult to accurately assess given that when Fluffy Technique Assessment Officers ("FTAO") attended most Chow Gar schools they discovered that not all techniques could be properly assessed because most schools' Closed Door - Secret Deadly Technique - Students (CD-SDT-S) could not be found - however a lot of doors were found to be closed.

Therefore conservative figures indicate that Chow Gar's FTQP sits somewhere between 7.3% and 10%. This figure has been rounded to an overall 8.5 FTQP rating for the style.

Anecdotal evidence also suggests that some masters attempted to influence their FTQP rating in the presence of the FTAOs by practicing BJJ/MMA techniques which they had cleverly disguised as their own by renaming them.

Some examples were:

Side mount - new prisoner has uncomfortable night

Knee on belly - tiger catches it's prey

Rear mount - unlucky new prisoner's second night in jail

Straight arm bar - monkey snaps twig

Butt Scoot - Incontinent dog soils carpet

Collar choke-- Patient Father Chastises Flame-Haired Son of Least Favourite Wife

Triangle choke - arhat examines bicep

Kimura: Bully takes the milk money

These masters were told that this did not count because they had to have their own Fluff and not steal other systems' Fluff.

The masters then said that it didn't matter where the Fluff came from because it was the principle behind the Fluff that mattered the most and that the principles of fighting were universal so any technique could be Fluffy if you understood it well enough and had Fluff in your application. But the FTAOs then got angry at the masters and yelled that if the Chow Gar masters strayed out of the preconceived ideas of their style and got all Fluffy with other peoples Fluff then they would be declassified as a TMA and re-designated an MMA and thereafter have all their Fluff confiscated.

Funny...LOL...but a bit provoking eh
