Rep Power: 17 | | | Can you really fight? I would like to know out of all of these martial artists, how many of you believe in your techniques Now of those that fully believe in your technique and style, how many of you believe that it has the potential to save your life in a street fight, let's say the South side of Chicago or New York or Houston Just curious..because talking fighting is one thing, being able to apply it in real knock down, no holds barred situations is another..I'm interested in comments..

Rep Power: 17 | | | well at least you are honest...I am not saying that some martial artist can't survive..I'd just be interested in knowing the applicability and practicality of some of these disciplines within these street environments..I mean, I grew up in the streets and had many a tango myself..

That's pretty much my mentallity. Of course, I would be nowhere near those neighbourhoods you mentioned. And don't most of those fights end in a gunfight

Rep Power: 0 | | | As far as street environments go, I prefer to take my mom and dad's advice. They don't fight at all but they've hardly been in bad situations. I have the "luxury" I guess, to be able to chose to avoid areas where it would be dangerous for me, and when I am in a semi-dangerous area I avoid bad situations. Ie a few weeks ago I was walking home from a club and some people were having an argument on the sidewalk I was on. Even though it meant me passing up a couple hookers I just crossed the street so I wouldn't even have a confrontation with them.
I've gotten a training knife and tested it out with my brother. We tried a whole bunch of stuff with it, but whenever we tried fighting the person with the knife we were sliced up. When we just covered up, did a body check and ran we got a couple of cuts but they weren't fatal. I imagine a gun would be the same way. I've also sparred with people who can easily kick my ass (so I've never challenged them to a fight, hence my 5-0-0 amateur record) so I know there are people out there who can beat me one on one, even if there aren't too many of them, there's still enough that it's more prudent for me to avoid the fight.
If I had to protect my mom or a friend of mine, or some situation like that though, I'm fairly confident I would be able to as that's the only situation I can think of where I'd willingly stay around for a fight. I don't know if I'd come out alive though, but whoever I was covering probably would. |

Been cut, stuck and shot.
The only thing that got me through was my training and will. The training needs to be realisticly applicable and more importantly you have to have the presence of mind and will to act in any way necessary to escape/survive. MA's are simply a tool to that end. But yeah I am pretty confident that I can defend myself and others in many situations. Somtimes I scare my students, so many peopl have no idea what its like to have to defend your life for real. It really really messes with your head.
I Don't like thinking about it much, gives me a crappy feeling in my belly. Another reason I stopped bouncing. PTSD anyone
No I am cool, but I do remember the feel post incident. It sucks not to mention the some of the wounds.

I got into a big fight once. Me and several other blokes outside a pub. I got beaten up badly, but I walked way (in the direction of A&E). An ambulance took the six of them to hospital.
Yeah I can fight. |

overhashed, SEARCH n00b!!! lol.
Apparently my hand to hand abilities are sufficient enough to survive fights in a bar or on a sidewalk/parking lot/lava bit litered with broken glass and hyperdermic needles. However, when posed with the situations you mentioned, I am very confident in my Glock Fu being better than his....if not, it only takes a second to find out.

Rep Power: 69 | | | Blizzzzake, like all TMA's Glockfu is quite good at beating scrubs who don't have the "Glock". However, when other guys have the "glock" as well,....................I don't know, I'll save my Ruger-Ryu as a last ditch dirty trick, cause I know people who have spent a lot more time learning to shoot, draw, reload under duress, use cover properly, etc, than me!
