WOW...Robin actually made a post worth recognizing!!
I have owned a Chevy, Nissan pick up, BMW, and two VW's (currently 2000 Passat). I am pro VW/Chevy. I know there are good cars out there as well, but those are my preferences. My Chevy ran on the original engine for 230k before I sold it, my first VW had 200k before I sold it, and have known MANY a VW's that run forever!!!! German's DO have the best engineering bar none. Honda's do run for a long time as well, but you replace many parts on the way. VW's have a much better safety record as well. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | I have owned a Passat and a Jetta. My friend has owned 3 Golfs.
If you get a VW, be prepared to spend A LOT to replace any engine parts, to have it be almost impossible to do it yourself with out a lot of VW specialty tools, and to have to wait up to 3 weeks for a part to be imported.
Also, even with the best ones, prepare for a lot of small, expensive, cheaply made plastic parts on the interior to break (door handles, radio buttons, plastic panels, window handles, etc.
All of my friends who have owned VWs agree with me that we will never buy another one. It's too much of a headache, and the only real positive is that young women think they are "cute." |

LOL John!
Yeah I read up on them before I invested- apparently the first lot they ran of were crap- expensive crap!
Then the Germans went out there and showed them how to do it! Before my fourth child was born I drove a Passat V6 2.8 -simply awesome! But unless I strapped the baby to the bonnet it wasn't going to work with 4!
The Merc is really good. Especially for long distance.

Yep, boyfriend is getting rid of his (took over lease of sis, never did want it) and he said the same thing. The window screwed up on him, his old Golf had the same prob and then some, all on the interior.
He's mom has a VW Golf Diesel (yes they do make those), thing is kinda smelly and loud but she gets around 55 to the gallon.

That kind of looks like Don Frye with an ice pack on his head, not much like Cam though. | |
