Rep Power: 23 | | | Sunday Shopping - For or Against? I live in Nova Scotia, Canada. We don't have shopping on Sunday. Basically only certain shops are allowed to open on Sunday's. Those would be things like Gas stations, fruit stands, Movie Theatres, corner stores, etc etc. There was a province wide election recently and one of the questions on the ballot was "Should there be Sunday Shopping" and another question was "If there is Sunday shopping, should it only be for the six weeks before Christmas, or all year round"
The vote was close, but the "NO" side to Sunday shopping won at 53%. Unfortunately we don't have Florida to blame for any sort of errors
You can read a couple of articles on a Nova Scotia paper's online site at www.herald.ns.ca (more specifically, http://www.herald.ns.ca/stories/2004.../f222.raw.html
Myself, I'm a supporter of Sunday shopping. I would like the ability to purchase things that I may not have had the opportunity to purchase during the week.
So that being said, what do D-List members think of Sunday Shopping

More puritanical nonsense. There are too many people of other faiths for these broadly effecting decrees.
People who observe the sabbath should simply do it themselves not impose it on others. Because thats basically what this is no matter what they call it or wrap it up as.
And how hypocritical is it to have somethings OK to be open and doing business and others not.

Rep Power: 18 | | | you can do a law where nobody will work 7 days a week with no day off and open on Sundays
If you want to buy on Sunday you should be able to do it, if you dont like it dont do it, but dont limit others who like shopping on Sundays, where's evil

Sadly... This should be done: Metaphorically.

Rep Power: 0 | | | As an advertising and marketing student, I might add that sundays are the most popular days to shop: since people don`t have to work or study... and sunday is a leisure day to rest. If the weather`s rainy, or cold, or extremely hot; the shopping center is the ideal place to be, to gather with friends and to feed the consumism monster.
Whenever there`s a big city, there`s a big mall to go and spend huge amounts of $$$. That`s the law of the market: We live in a capitalist world dominated by "wants" over our "needs", buying is our new religion; and the shopping centers are our new church.
(Don`t take this literally- Im being ironic :S)

Rep Power: 48 | | | I get it KFSol. I also think that shopping IS a family-type recreation and part of the big deal is to keep families together and bonding and all that. Go to church, then go for brunch, go to the mall (or eat at the mall) or Home Depot. I see no irreverence here. We use to go to the church hall or community centre after church for activities with family and friends. The mall is just another venue. You see all your friends there now!
