Rep Power: 103 | | | I was waiting all night Saturday for this fight to be posted, and Sunday morning I awoke to a glorious Cung Le fight. Its really hard to tell if Cung Le hits hard or not, because he doesn't seem to swing for the fences...but eventually those hits wear people down. Obviously he has power though, since he broke Frank's arm.
The thing that impresses me about Le is that he uses unorthadox techniques, has pinpoint precision with them, and is very evasive. He really doesn't seem like a fighter who goes for a 1-hit knockout, but is planning his attacks over the coarse of the entire fight. Especially with Frank, he never pressed the fight to put himself in a position of real danger (with the exception of a couple flare kicks).
Le always impresses me and I can't wait for his next fight. I really would like to see him go against a strong grappler and prove his Wrestling skills. I think it would show a different side of Cung.

Cung Le has just given san-shou/san-da legitimacy. What a gift.

as much as I liked the fight, I totally agree. I think Frank made a really poor decision to "beat cung at his own game" and not even try to use his wrestling/submission stuff. Piss poor game plan if you ask me. Isn't the purpose of technique to use your strength against your opponents weakness?
Can anyone explain Frank's motive without using the word "arrogant" (or one of it's synonyms)

Entertainment. Frank likes to put on fights that please the crowd. That's what sells tickets and that's why he and Cung got paid the $$$$$$$$. If he had shot, took Cung down and subbed him in 13 seconds like he did to Monday, Zinoviev, etc. then what would be the entertainment value in that? Now, they stand to make even more $$$$$ on the rematch.... and my bet is that Frank will follow the same gameplan again....

Rep Power: 10 | | | well said! and I'm pretty sure I agree with you. Keep it entertaining to ensure a profitable rematch
however after having his arm kicked in half, I think pride might take over on the rematch. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Rep Power: 46 | | | A true pro sells tickets, love 'em or hate 'em. l know that Cung getting beaten grappling sounds good on paper, but Cung has some pretty good greco skills from other bouts i've seen, and i recall him training bjj some years back, forget with who, Machados maybe? So i'd love to see him do well in all ranges of course... Great entertainment all the way around anyhow....

Rep Power: 150 | | | Yeah, that's still not to say that Frank could beat Cung immediately on the ground, either... because Cung has an extensive wrestling background and did train in submissions.... with Frank Shamrock a few years ago..... Frank may or may not be able to beat Cung on the ground... but we will never know unless we at least see him try to....
