| Yes, different "win by".... although I am not sure the doc stopped this fight as I think Frank may have just not answered the bell for the 4th round.
Tap out is win by submission
Choked unconscious is listed as a KO
Knocked out is a KO
Ref stoppage from strikes is often listed as a TKO (technical knockout)
When a doctor intervenes (from cuts, breaks, other things like that that can render a fighter incapable of continuing at full capacity) are listed as Doctor stoppages.
I teach all my guys to finish fights, to always be looking for the submission or the KO. The reason is that it gives a definite ending to a fight. It means the fighter could not continue. If it's ref stoppage or a doc stoppage or a TKO then that means someone else decided for the guy thet he could not continue but he may have wanted to continue. I teach my guys not to leave it up to anyone else. This also helps keep the fights more entertaining. Take for example the Kenflo vs. Jlau fight at the last UFN. Kenny sat on top of Joe for almost 2 minutes in mount throwing ineffective punches trying to get the ref stoppage. He finally did but Joe was fine afterwards. It was a ref stoppage due to positional dominance. Kenny should have and could have gone for an armbar at anytime as they were readily available but instead chose to play it safe and work for the stoppage. It's just boring and a not very "finite" ending to a fight.
Anyway, enough ranting.... back to the topic, if the doc stopped the fight it would be listed as a doc stoppage but I think Frank actually quit and if so it will be listed as a TKO (as opposed to a submission because he refused to answer the bell and quit between rounds).
