Not necessarily. There have been many prepared fighters that have lost and gotten things broken... She actually did pretty well in the fight, it was just one shot that got through that broke her jaw. | “ | Are you saying that you can't do MMA unless your in a cage or ring competing? | ”
Right now the cage and the ring are the only approved enclosures in the unified rules for MMA so yeah... if you are competing in some other enclosure then you are doing something other than MMA, regardless of how similar.

Rep Power: 164 | | | No doubt she got the worst of the stand-up but it went to a decision, didn't it? She hung in there and controlled the fight on the ground. I just don't think she did as badly as the pictures and the stories of the broken jaw make it sound. She got jacked up in the first few seconds of the fight, fought through it and fought on until the end of the fight. She says she's looking to be back in the ring by October.

Rep Power: 22 | | | I agree completely. She had taken a lot of damage, but she had enough self respect to keep fighting. I respect that in a fighter. |

Oh, yeah to compete, I meant just for training and working out in MMA are you saying that you have to do it in a cage or ring? I didn't mean competing.

She is totally hot but besides that she can fight for real. She went to Thailand to train. Maybe what attracted me to her is not only is she beautiful but she can kick ass too. To me that makes her super sexy. Anyways, whats everyone's oppinion on females in pro mma events? | ”
I haven't been able to see many MMA women fights, but I don't have a problem with females in pro MMA events.
My kids LOVE the new American Gladiators show, (okay okay, so do I ) and one of the Gladiators " Crush" (Gina Carano) fights in EliteXC with Kim Couture and co.
I was surprised to see that - but it explains a lot about how she is able to do so well in the silly American Gladiators competition.
She has a 6-0-0 EliteXC and 12-1-1 Muay Thai record?
Impressive!

Rep Power: 40 | | | I think, you can say you train at a MMA school, or train the same way as MMA fighters. But, I think, to say you are "in MMA" implies you are either fighting in MMA events, or are part of the business side of things.

Rep Power: 22 | | | That's true, I mean these days I have tried to find some guys that train in grappling, but just because I can strike and grapple a little doesn't make me an MMA fighter. |

I hear ya'. I was just disappointed in the lack of striking defense and that while she controlled the ground, she was not able to advance her position very well. All said, anyone who steps up has my full respect. I have also seen fights stopped way earlier, so as to that bout going to decision, yes but she got "lucky" there as i think a ref would have been justified in stopping it.
I wish her and hers well.
Ps. Are you friends with the Coutures?

MMA is a sport. If you aren't competing in MMA then you aren't "doing MMA". You can do backyard fighting or dojo fighting using MMA rules and you can train in the arts and styles that MMA fighters train in but if you aren't "doing MMA" then you aren't "DOING MMA".
Training in multiple styles is not "doing MMA".
Sparring full contact in multiple ranges is not "doing MMA".
Training in the arts and styles that MMA fighters train in at an MMA gym is training FOR MMA, but the people doing such are still not "doing MMA" until they get in there and "DO MMA". | “ | I think, you can say you train at a MMA school, or train the same way as MMA fighters. Doughboy is correct. | “ | Ps. Are you friends with the Coutures? | ”
No, sadly. I have met and hung out with a LOT of big name fighters (mostly through reffing for IFL) but I have never met the Coutures.

Rep Power: 22 | | | Mainly because a female MMA fighter can fight with just as much skill as a male MMA fighter. But of course there are physiological differences between the genders in terms of hormones, etc. but still a female MMA fighter could be a very dangerous opponent in the cage or on the street. |

So can any other fighter.
