Rep Power: 39 | | | MMA gym in Chicagoland area? Hey guys, I'm back from vacation and I have to say I have a taste for MMA in my mouth and I kinda like it. I would like to start cross-training in MMA with the option to compete. I'm does just wondering if anybody knows of any good MMA gyms in the area. Any leads will be appreciated.
Thanks!

Rep Power: 0 | | | There are several from what I understand.
I will make a thread on MMA.tv asking about it--I should have an answer for you in about 12 hours or so...
Where exactly in the Chicago area are you That might help as far as narrowing your options down.

Rep Power: 0 | | | I second Cam's reccomendation of an SBG. The thread I posted will doubtless have some BJJ proponents advocating you go to the Carlson Gracie school, but if you are looking for an MMA training school more like what you saw with us, SBG is the way to go.
A BJJ school will more than likely be expensive and political.
SBG affiliates are all cool as far as I know. A great group of guys with great training philosophies and execution. Plus, they know their shizzle. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | Doesn't Carlson Gracie teach in Chicago
There's also a guy on Sherdog called #1Plumber (or something like that) in the grappling forum who's from the Chicago area. He's worth looking up - not necessarily as a teacher though. |

Rep Power: 39 | | That SBG place looks like more of what I'm looking for. I'm relatively sure I do not want to do actual BJJ as I am not looking for a rank and I am not a big fan of drama. I will definately give him a call, that place is pretty far from where I'm at (1-2 hr drive, I still have to map it) and that could pose a problem but I'm definately going to call the guy. | “ | Originally

It must've been the BBQ. yum yum!
Nah, I'm no more converted from Kosho to MMA than I am to HKD or TKD. The only difference here would be that I actually intend to compete sometime.
Wow, thanks for all the leads fellas! Keep 'em coming, I plan to have more time to go over everything this weekend. As it is, I can barely find the time to poop during the week.

Rep Power: 22 | | | Yes, Carlson does have a Gracie Barra there. It comes highly recommended from my friend Cliff. You should check it out. If nothing else, Cliff is a serious talent and would be good for you to train with. I can shoot you his e-mail if you'd like. He began training at Carlon's a couple weeks ago.
I am also friend with Tom (#1 plumber) but he's in Rockford, which is a couple hours from you I believe you said,

Rep Power: 0 | | | Don't worry Jubei, Carlson doesn't give out rank easily. My experience training with Marcus Soares (one of Carlson's top teachers) was that there was no drama whatsoever, just a bunch of very cool laid back guys who are doing everything they can to help you get better. | |
