Rep Power: 0 | | Hello Michigan! Hi, I'm Justin
I am currently studying Shaolin Kempo in Lansing, MI. I will be moving to the Detroit area very soon and I am looking for a kung fu school. I love to talk and compare arts, so feel free to hit me up. If anyone wants to chat or knows anyone teaching kung fu in Detroit or the suburbs..please let me know
I started in Illinois studying a Shaolin Chuan 5 Animal system and a Kempo/Kenpo system. That branched into Muay Thai,Ju Jitsu,Jeet Kune Do,Kali, and whatever I could find in the area. Later traveling alot and the Air Force brought more! A lot of study in Georgia and Alabama too. I am a seeker of martial arts knowledge and history! |

Welcome to the forums. Im from Michigan but im a little north of Detroit I live in Saginaw. Check out Tai Chi mantis is from Grand Rapids I believe. There are quite a few schools around the area. Tai Chi mantis system is awesome!!
Also some of my Kung Fu brothers live in the Detroit area. If you want to check out Hung Fa Yi Wing Chun Kuen or Ip Man Ving Tsun.
Then there are some Bagua schools in Ann Arbor. There a school I forgot the name. But the system they teach is called Yuchia Shaolin. (I have no clue the only info Ive ever found is on the website of the school that teaches it) so im not sure if its legitament or not. However one of my other kung fu brothers is currently training there. He said hes getting quite a bit out of the training.
I wish you the best luck!
take care,

Rep Power: 0 | | | Looking for kung fu in Michigan -Thank you I spoke with Tai Chi Mantis when I first found The Dragons List. She was great!! I visited her Sifu's school and I really enjoyed my visit to Grand Rapids.
-I am right in the middle of Michigan(Lansing) and both Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids are an hour away in different directions.
-There is also a school in Ann Arbor that I found. I have yet to visit it.
-I am moving to a suburb of Detroit, maybe Warren or Southfield but I will also be commuting to Wayne State University in Downtown Detroit.
-Anything I have found is alwasy at least an hour away...so I am trying to find something before I make my move so I can be closer to a school to train! I am that nuts about kung fu for sure!!
-I have been studying Shaolin Kempo and Combat Hapkido in Lansing.
I can definately recommend anyone to Lansing schools and instructors! |

Sorry I didnt respond sooner, I was at a seminar for the entire weekend and just got back today. (I think last night I got maybe 2 hours of sleep) But it was a great seminar!
Anyways I train at the Ving Tsun Museum in Huber Heights (close to Dayton in Ohio) But we also have a club in Saginaw, Kalamazoo, Ann Arbor and soon in Detroit (maybe in the next few years).
Our core philosophy is based on time, space and energy. and the concept of Saam Mo Kiu (3 connecting bridges) Its interesting stuff, you should check it out some time if your interested.
take care,
