Newbie Here...2 this site & Kung Fu

Hi All,
I came accross this site while trying to research Kung Fu. I am looking for a good way to get into shape while learning new skills. I have a back injury that holds me back when it comes to a lot of activities and I am not getting very far with getting into shape on my own.

I wonder if the emphasis on form in martial arts would make Kung Fu a good choice for me. There is a Pai Lum Kung Fu school close to where I live.

I look forward to reading over more of this site and hearing from ya'll!

Welcome!

The best way to find out which martial art is for you is to visit the school in person. You should visit 3 schools minimum -- even if only 1 is nearby, it's worth the extra time to just go and check out 2 more that interest you just to get a broader perspective.

Any school you visit, let them know you have a back injury. A responsible teacher will make accommodations so you don't get reinjured. And won't let you fight full contact until your injury is healed and your back strengthened.

Other than that, it's really up to you. Decide what martial art you like, and if it will help you achieve your initial goals (strengthening your back & getting into shape) and then beyond.

I had a lot of success recovering from my own back injury by starting out with tai chi. When I felt more confident I added kung fu.
