Soma

Hi, I'm attending a class called SOMA - School of Martial Arts in Oxford, England. This is taught in 'open mind/open style' as its ethos, and sees different martial artists of various different forms learn and teach each other for practical situations. My question relates to the styles the sifu teaches - Wing Chun, Mantis, White Crane and Dragon styles. What are the essential points of these 4 styles, their differences and similarities. I'm interested in knowing what forms I'm learning, but find it hard to work out which aspects of the 4 I'm learning.

Thanks in advance. ZeroZero

Zerozero, you don't state in your post what kind of Mantis you are studying...Northern or Southern (I'm guessing Southern, but I could be wrong!)

not sure

Hmm, I'm not sure. I imagine southern because he learnt the styles (as far as I know) whilst he was a sailor. Again, this was a reason for the original question - I'm not too sure what styles I'm studying...

Really, there have been more than enough posts and links on these message boards to answer any info need on dragon, white crane, and mantas. Simply look at the posts with those exact names of that type of animal...there only couple clicks away. We've talked in depth about those styles. Look at older posts and you'll see alot of info on them. Just a little time looking over this webpage will reveal them.

Good luck and hope your training goes well.

Interesting group!

It all sounds pretty good, until you see the guy with a 4th Dan in "Lama tai-chi qigong".
Now I wonder what thats all about
