what is Vagabond Styles?

I have heard the name Vagabond Style, apparently a british fellow teaches it, but what is it

Its just any style comming from criminals basicaly.
The word vagabond basicaly refers to a person who does not live by the law. Can also be used to discribe a social outcase or group of people who live outside[by there own choice] the govenments restrictions.
There are many vagabond styles as in reality if you were a criminal or traveler in the ages gone you would need to fight VERY well to stay alive.
Ninjitsu is often refered to as a vagabond style.
I would be pretty highly suspect of someone teaching a 'vagabond style' becouse ive never heard the name as anything other than generic.
It would be like saying i teach kung fu or i teach ninja without actualy telling you exactly what sort.
He should have real name for the style beyond simply vagabond.
He may just use that to build interest, he may teach Canton Duck boxing.

Vagabond style has been said to be a conglomeration of martial techniques that are usually taught by Chinese street performers. They wandered town to town living out in the wild, as mentioned, like gypsys. They were sometimes not considered that pleasent of people other times magicians that had incredible abilities. I think the latter was due to more illusionary techniques as seen today on stages, but many years ago would stupify common folk in magical fantasies of vagabonds having immense powers!

The systems that I have seen in these "groups" are mixtures of kung fu techqnues that would mostly be "what is needed" in a given situation. Thinking of their profession, they might come in contact with bandits, thieves, and many times guards or town patrols they might have to fight and hence quick, damaging techniques and then escapes.

The hardcover edition is what I own and has many pictures and technqiues shown and explained. The system that one would learned would most likely have many illusion style methods taught to the student as in ninjitsu. The whole package would be very ecclectic but would offer and very unique challenge to the student and have some great technqiues and off color abilites and skills learned in the end.

As mentioned by LoneTiger, I would be very cautious of someone teaching such a system and would like some kind of proof of his linage or method of learning such a style and system

One point though, criminals and fighters, if he is, would have very good techniques and skills to teach, aside from ones getting them into trouble to start with...due to the living dangerously and surviving prison stints!
