Rep Power: 100 | | | what's in your little black book? remembering forms can be pretty hard, so many people write down their forms to remember it.
I would like to know how you make your notes
or better:
show us what's in your little black book
give some examples of what you've written to remember your forms...

Just constant practice untill they're locked into muscle-memory.

Rep Power: 41 | | | I actually do have a small black book and a small red book. The black book is for kung fu, the red book is for tai chi.
After the class in the evening I write out all the new material I've learned in class, sometimes it is forms, sometimes it is better ways to stretch/exercise, etc.
I do refer to the books from time to time, however I look forward to reading them at the end of a year.

Rep Power: 30 | | | I have a document on my computer with all my techniques listed within.
I write things like:
Regular block with left hand (Similar to palm up), right punch to stomach, left chop to side of neck, step right foot in, pull opponent down and apply half rice bail choke.
This isn't exactly a form, it's just a single technique. Forms wise we don't have much at all, only about 6 forms which are very short and simple to remember, apart from some of the 2 man weapon forms. |

Tan Tui Line 8
Openingsritueel.
Rechtervuist gaat onderwijl in waist.

Rep Power: 62 | | I have a Word file that houses all my forms. Its only about 10 pages long and has form work from So Lim PM, Northern Shaolin, Tan Tui, White Dragon, and xing yi. Wing chun stuff is on tape, and soon, SPM stuff will be on tape as well. I actually looked back at it a few weeks ago, and its all a bit more cryptic than I had hoped it would be...Ill post some fo it when I get home from work tonight...
I have a separate notebook where I keep all my dit da jow recipes. They are actaully all written down on Engineering graph paper and/or printed excel tables, stuffed inside of the book that I order my bulk herbs out of. | “ | Originally

Rep Power: 153 | | | I keep a Word file, too. I'd draw diagrams but I'm a terrible artist. Since Wah Lum has a school handbook, I keep the forms in sequence the way the handbook does so I can cross-reference if need be.
For each move, I write:
1. Name of the movement
2. How the move is done
3. The application(s).
- Because the number of applications increase as I progress, I come back to Part 3 a lot to add them, which is why the Word file is helpful.
In many cases there is a Part 4 - transitions - which is all theory gleaned from practice and not necessarily part of the form. E.g., doing the move by itself, what are some logical follow-ups to this move? I'll go and practice with a partner and if they work, I'll add them.
I also have a binder with some training charts I made up in Excel, to track out-of-class training like runs, strength training, etc.

Rep Power: 0 | | | My Sifu encouraged this, so much as to give us time at the end of class to write and ask questions. This if the second page of my Wing Chun book, on Sil Lum Tao:
-Breathing, Qi gong
-Neutralizing the initiative
-Middle animal theory
-Yin Yang theory
-Simultaneous arm use theory
-On/Off theory (centre-moving-back to centre)
-Expanding/Contracting theory
-3 level (self/bridge/opponent) theory
-4 ounce theory - feeling the root
-straightest line theory
