Yeah, but they're looking for a quick fix.
I hate it because they fail to realise the quicker and harder they strike, the quicker and harder my respond must be. Then not to mention trying to hold back enough so you don't hurt them. People really don't think at all when they try that type of stuff. Usually they're swinging with full power and intent on hitting you, because you do martial arts you're supposed to block EVERYTHING!

Rep Power: 127 | | | Agreed. The whole thing about the "what would" question is this. Who really knows what they would do? People can say they would do this or that, and I'm sure there's people out there that could do exactly as they say. But those people are few, and to be honest... I'd be weary of someone that would actually say they would do this or that.

Exactly- Jaws- and some of the rest of you are talking like you're being bullied because you do MA. That seems weird!!
If someone does the 'you didn't see that coming' thing to me, I explain why and then I hurt them a bit and then they understand. |

Tha kills me! I have a freind that always says, "You going to Tae Kwon Do tonight?" Bah, ive told him repeatedly that its not TKD. Now I just say "Nope, not going to TKD tonight." Then I pick up my gym bag and leave the house.
Also he calls my teacher 'Sensei'. Silly, he seems to learn everything from the movies

Nah, not bullied. But some people can have some really stupid ideas when they hear you study MA.

Rep Power: 26 | | | I don't get bullied just annoyed and i can't do anything about it cause its at work i can't hurt them a little bit at work. When i'm not at work i'm at kung fu or with people who are from kung fu or at least know better.

Rep Power: 30 | | | I think most people I know are scared of me demonstrating something on them incase I hurt them. Sometimes you get the question "yeah but what if someone has a knife or a gun?" Well duh, we have techniques to deal with that as well..
The other annoying thing people come out with to me is "Yeah but he's twice your size, he'll batter you". Since when has size had any kind of correlation to fighting prowess?!? |

They're like WTF you're insane, and they leave me alone.

Rep Power: 8 | | | Personally, I really dont mind the stereotypes that come with our training. Sure on a bad day they might get to me, but usually its no big deal. I guess I've lived with them for a while... Now I just dont let many people know I train.
HOWEVER, theres nothing I hate more than people who think that Kung fu relates to EVERYTHING in life. I was playing crib with a friend one weekend and I took a few seconds to count up my hand. She then asks "Whats taking so long, I thought "Mr Kung fu" would be a quick thinker."

good one....
the only problem with not telling and doing full contact sparring is walking around at work with a black eye or limping
and then having to explain it to all of them pencilpushers @ work...

I have had both situations. SOme people think im a super-killer, but most don't care. I used to talk on and on about it but i got the distinct impression few people cared, so i just stopped talkiing about it all together unless someone asks me.
