You are much better off being in with the adults and training hard and well than in with the kids coasting along!!!

"size and weight doesn't matter"
That can be true, but why do you think the Gracie's always beat up bigger guys than them
Because they adapted to their style, that's why. You'll learn to adapt to your style, and use your whole body to your advantage. Trust me, plus youve only been training for 1 month, EXPECT TO GET YOUR A-- WHUPPED!!!, but always look for a way to beat them, always ALWAYS look on the bright side.
And..... Like someone else said....
"the only way you will progress, is to practice with people bigger, stronger, and faster than you"
Keep this in mind. Never forget it.

Rep Power: 10 | | | sure, size and weigh doesn't matter, but most likely a bigger, stronger person will hurt badly a smaller, skinnier person, but it depends everyone is different.
for ex. Bruce Lee could defeat opponents twice his size, double his weigh. So it just depends how much time you put on your training to make it good, you put your whole life into to it, most likely you become very good at it, like Mr. Lee did.
If you make Martial Arts a way of life like Lee did, you will live differently.

Rep Power: 13 | | Yes, I would say that you should definately stay in the adult class, fighting the bigger guys will inprove your skills against bigger people seeing as how most street encounter the attacker is bigger than the defender, important point I said MOST, life is chaotic and ever changing as do situations in life, therefore you should aslo attend the childrens classes as well.
Probably the best thing would be to talk to your teacher!

Rep Power: 0 | | Definitely hang in there! You are going to have to rely on getting perfect technique execution in order to defeat those bigger guys. Focus on that and don't worry about winning or losing sparring matches, just worry about if you are learning and improving your understanding and execution. You still have at least 3-4 years of growing left so when you finally get to your adult strength you will have the best of both worlds: power + skill and will wipe the floor with anybody else.
If you are really concerned about being able to fight from a size/power disadvantage, consider learning Wing Chun which is designed with the assumption that your opponent will always be bigger/stronger/faster than you. Ok, ok, it's shameless promotion but I really love Wing Chun! |

Rep Power: 69 | | Size doesn't matter Oh come on! You guys have got to be kidding! Yes it does!!!!! It takes A LOT of skill to successfully deal with someone who is bigger than you. But then that's the point isn't it Smaller people need to be very skilled if they expect to deal with larger opponents. Size isn't the only factor (psychology is just as important) but it definately does matter! However in the context of this discussion bigger stronger training partners is a good, good, good thing. I can tell who are the true warriors in my class because they always seek out the biggest, toughest looking guy in the class to train with, it's the guys who look for the smallest, meekest looking person to train who aren't going anywhere soon. So I agree with the majority sentiment stick with the adult class, it will turn you into a real martial GORILLA. |

Rep Power: 100 | | STICK WITH IT Adversity builds character, strength and skill. SIZE DOES NOT MATTER in any situation.(x893). Knowing what you are doing and doing it well is what matters.
I am only 5,7 and at present, weigh about 170lbs. When I was healthy and weighed 150lbs. I could bench press 235lbs. My goal was to be 5'7 with a 30" waist and weigh 220lbs.When I was a Police Officer, a lot of the "BIG GUY'S" would stand back and wait for me to do what needed to be done. On drug raids, I would usually go in first. It's not the size of the man but the size of the "inner man".
Continue on, learn and grow.
One of my personal motto's has always been and will alway's be "IF IT DOES'NT KILL YOU, IT WILL MAKE YOU STRONGER"

Rep Power: 69 | | | Okay so like I said size doesn't matter..............if you have the skill to compensate for it, but isn't that the same as saying it does matter Okay so to clarify, for the unskilled it matters, and for the skilled it doesn't or not so much. I mean my Tai Chi teacher who weighs 130lbs dripping wet, it doesn't matter, but he's been doing it for almost 40 years. To one of my 130lb beginners it does! But of course that's the whole point of martial skill. Maybe this is all almost semantics cuz FUZZY, I totally agree with 99.9% of what you said. I tell my own students that size is not an excuse, but when a larger student is pushing them around, I tell them he's doing it because he is stronger physically than you and you are not yet skilled enough to beat him yet. I have a 150lb senior student who won't blink an eye at the thought of wrestling men of 280+ but he is skilled and he has the (warrior spirit) way about him.

Rep Power: 63 | | Not sure exactly why I was referred to in your comment fuzzy
But just the same, I would totally disagree. Size does matter and its a very big factor.
If you are face with an opponent who is a foot and a half taller and 100lbs bigger you are gonna have to factor his size into your methods of dealing with him. To just make a blatant statement that size doesnt matter is completely false. You can be fast, strong, great attitude...tech. ect...a face a guy who is bigger...and just as fast...strong...ect...and you may very well and most likely get the crap kicked outta you.
Size matters. Its a very important factor that I would urge people to not forget. Because if you believe a statement like size doesnt matter...then you may not factor that into your training and when the time comes where you have to deal with someone of "size"; you will have serious problems.
I personally dont care for generalizations like "size dont matter" because for the most part...they are wrong.
An example of this...I just read a friends book today actually...it was a self-help/psychology book...in it there were these statements..(paraphrased)
"if you have an IQ of 100...but are friendly, optimistic, outgoing...ect...you will do much better than someone who is pessimistic and doesnt work well with others...but has an IQ of 120"
Statements like these make no sense at all. Its stating something to be true that is actually only partially so.
I know several guys right now...who make tons of money doing programming out of there house...they have no interaction with people in general...just a couple friends...and they make more money than anyone I know.(6 figures). Several of them are very pessimistic, not outgoing...ect..
The point
The point is...you simply can not justify making statements like these generalizations, because they are too vague and not factually supported
Granted, some generalizations are very accurate...but statements like "size doesnt matter" dont fall into this category.
Bottomline, size does matter, it must be factored into your training, your attitude...ect...otherwise you will encounter some problems in life and your training will be missing a very important opinion.
