Rep Power: 39 | | Weight Matters I'm 5'6" and 140lbs. I do not have a lot to throw around, however I am very good at throwing around what I got. I hit just as hard as the guys in my school twice my wieght. I can more than hold my own with them. However, I believe that if those guys learned to use their weight as efficiently as I have, I wouldn't stand a chance.
I am a firm believer in "it's not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog" but realistically, if you fought someone with skills exactly equal to yours, exept they were 100lbs heavier and had 6" more reach than you, you wouldn't have a prayer.
Not to down-play anyone, but I think size does come with some obvious advantages. |

Rep Power: 100 | | | Jubei (just remember some cool clips of you in the "old" old old time board),
of course size has the advantage of having a lot of mass behind striking without any kind of alignment, and additionally that one of power from the size of muscles.
That's why that sort of guys often don't need too much practice, and don't have that amount of skills when it comes to had core fighting. Just I wouldn't be illusioned about the AMOUNT of skill and own POWER needed to win a fight against someone of the bigger sized musculous guys which exist in America a lot more than in Germany (fortunately, sigh). My advice would be to not mess around with no reason, and keep it civil to the ones who simply state a problem from their size. It is a good exercise to simply not mess around with ANYONE, even the small ones. Then it isn't so hard to do that to the big boys and stay friends. Train for getting in good shape, not for getting able to be an a$$hole. Someday someone will be the bigger if you play bad. |

Rep Power: 10 | | | cow tippin' I know this is'nt going to settle the 'size vs. skill' arguement, but at the very least it seemed like some fun imput. My mom is not a martial artist, she is in her fifties, and is about 5'1" tall. We had some cattle at the time, and she was bringing feed to their trough. There was a bramel bull. He was'nt full grown yet, but by no means a calf either. He pushed up on her, and knocked a good bit of the feed from the bucket to the ground. She slapped his nose to get him to move away, so she could finish the chore. The bull became upset, and she saw it start pawing the ground with it's head lowered. Unfortunately, it was between he and the pen's gate. She had nowhere to run, and nothing to get behind. The bull charged, and she punched it in the forehead. The bull dropped to it's knees, it's tongue rolled out of it's mouth, and it's eyes rolled. It then fell over unconcious. Her hand was red and swollen for two days afterward, but she did'nt break anything. I'll be the first to admit that she has a good natural punching ability, and uncanny reflexes. However, I just wanted to say that few opponents will be larger, stronger, or even faster than a bull. My mom is no trained fighter. Size is'nt always everything. If noone beleives this, I won't blame you; but if I had'nt seen it I might be more inclined to buy the 'size is most important' arguement.

Rep Power: 10 | | ADVICE By all means, hang in there. You are gaining experience and skills!! Work on your skills. Work on building your skill level. Don't think of it as getting beat-we all get beat from time to time. Think of it as gaining experience, which will serve you well as time goes on. You are not going to be 15 and weigh 120 pounds forever!!! You are growing in both stature and experience. Speak to your instructor about it, and let him/her know how you feel. He/She may have some idea's for you to use, and they may not be aware of your feelings about it. Don't give up!! You have too much to gain!!
