Rep Power: 0 | | Advice yea i have a question.first off if u guys didnt know im 15 and i weigh 120lbs.I am currently taking adult classs of BJJ and i have been there a month and no matter what i try or do i always get beat by the other adults.now i know most of u are gonna say "well dont they have a kid class u can take" the answer is yes but there are no my age so it would be too easy.now do u think i should just keep trying my best and try and beat them. but then what happends if i have a street encounter how would i stand up aginst someone my age and bigger do u think all my time losing against adults at my school could have an effect on my losing on the street |

Rep Power: 10 | | | I believe everyone should do his best because by doing so he never fails in doing all that he is currently capable of doing. Moreover, I rather come second it every completion, because my personal goal is to be better and as long as I get better I feel good about myself. For example, if I came second then there is more to learn and I have something to improve on, but if I win then I don't have a clear idea as to what I need become even better.
I think you understand this because you don't want to do anything that is too easy. You know that “easy” won't give you the confidence that you need in facing your fears (i.e. bigger, strong, faster, people on the streets).
Lastly, martial artist rarely have to get physical with anyone. So when you're not fighting that mythical guy from the street, focus on your ego because he seems to have you on a chokehold.

Rep Power: 63 | | We often had that problem in my jujitsu school.
Trust me...you will get bigger...and when you do these adults wont stand a chance!
What we did in our school was to focus more on technique and not who won or loss the match...if I was up against a kid your age and size....and I saw that he was really going for a technique that would work if I wasnt sooooo much bigger than him...I would make it tough on him but eventually let him get it on. You shouldnt lose all the time...makes you frustrated and for some people makes them wanna quit. But if you have patience then just go with the flow....if you get into a real altercation at school or whatever these guys will be more your size and you will probably have training that they dont have...plus you will be used to having to fight guys 3 times bigger than you.
But keep in mind....most importantly...that you are a beginner and dont know the techniques well enough to beat a larger opponent....in most arts...especially jujitsu...the technique is the most important...but it takes time!
Be patient.....you'll get there!

Rep Power: 10 | | | I have never studied bjj, the closest I came to it was shuai jiao. However, from every martial art I have ever studied, I would have to say that this advice holds true. If you want to get better, you have to practice with people whom are your superiors. If you don't give up you learn to adapt. Also keep in mind: you're a growin boy! Keep eatin your wheaties. Bottom line you never gain skill by practicing with people who are of an ability less than yourself. From my own experience; I had one instructor who was one of the best fighters I've seen to this day, however not the best role model. You learned that you were improving when he had to put down his cigarette to fight you. It is rather humbleing to have your butt kicked by a guy smoking a cigarette! |

Rep Power: 100 | | | JDP...First off size/weight don't really matter! I am 5'5'', weigh 120 and one of my regular sparring partners is 6' and weighs 220, and I have no problem holding my own against him. Now of course if he were to punch/kick me full force, chances are, I'd go down and not be getting up for a while! I just down let him get that close! Second, you say you have only been training for a month...give it some time! At least a year or 2! You can't expect to study something for only a month, and then be beating guys that have been training for years! It just doesn't work that way. Just give it some time, learn some patience, and I think you'll be fine!

Rep Power: 0 | | | Hello.... Question... Does your style teach footwork and hand techniques that work on the angles, off the centerline, or do you have to just march right down the centerline and out-quick, or overpower your opponent.. ... Any system that does not offer within its "library" of techniques and footwork, strategies that allow a smaller and/or less stronger person to, at least, self-defend against a larger, faster and/or stronger adversary, ... well, you see my point...
Bows to you... |

Rep Power: 0 | | | yea we have footwork and moving outside the center line like when we want to do a hip throw or something that is about all i can think of when were standing up ..other than that it is striaght forward. and we do not need to overpower we rely on making them off balance. |

Rep Power: 8 | | you're lucky I thing you're lucky, beacause it is 2 times more difficlut for u so it's a very good training. My thought is that if you combat against someaone your age, you will be surely better because you are used to performe agaisnt someone tougher.
