Rep Power: 6 | | | i found a few books in PDF form i was wondering if pressure points in a book is just as good as a teacher both teach were the point location is a picture diagram for the book and the both say were they both have functioning and resons of using the pressure point. one is self defence pressure points and the other pdf is dim mak pressure points..should i try and follow the books or consolt an instuctor before hand? if i consult a constructer then that will be difficult cause i have no extra money to spend.

No. Books are nice to provide guidelines and details and refreshers after you've learned from a competent instructor. But how do you know the pressure points really work if they haven't been demonstrated on you and done successfully by you, to someone else?

Rep Power: 3 | | | I think it's better to save up for an instructor. For most cases I've seen on book sites, it says that "Books can never replace a teacher. Books act as a reference after you have sucessfully learned from a qualified teacher." |

Rep Power: 3 | | Erle Montaigue thinks you can beat a grappler with Dim Mak, and it is so worthwhile that he wrote a book about it....
So don't trust everything he says. |

I agree. I hadn't heard about him until just the other day. I did a search on him, and my findings all point straight to him being a goob. Whereas his placement of actual pressure points seem to be correct, (you can find that info almsot anywhere), I wouldn't put too much stock in his descriptions of the combinations required to produce a certain effect. This is something that is not so easy as to buy a book and become deadly after 2 chapters. Striking pressure points calls for tremendous accuracy and tremendous power, as each spot is not much bigger than a nickel, and you need to strike most of them pretty hard to get the desired reaction. Steer clear, and just stick with the Mantis, which will have this stuff in it...just be patient.

Rep Power: 150 | | | Really, all you had to say was "Earl Montague."
And -- I know you picked those up for free off the Internet and stuff, but it's still a copyright violation to post entire blocks of text like that. If the mods see this they're gonna get a little peeved at you. Maybe you can go back and edit those posts, cut out 90% of the text please?

/kind of peeved about this kind of posting even when done innocently
/thanks in advance

Rep Power: 150 | | | I'm not sure if you can actually delete the post but you should be able to go in and just delete most of the text manually, shorten it up a lot. There should be an "edit" button at the bottom right of your post.
If not, PM a mod or hit the "Report Bad Post" icon (the ! at the top of each post). Might take the mod a little while to get here.
Thanks for trying to take care of it though, that's a bene from me!
