Rep Power: 31 | | | Oh yeah. I was sleeping on the couch one night, I was nice and comfy, and cozy when my dad told my brother to wake me up and tell me to go to bed. It was like 2 A.M. so when he came up to me he kept pushing my shoulder telling e to wake up.
Honestly, no one wants to wake up when they are like this, so I kept mumbling, and he kept pushing my shoulder in the same pattern with the same time in between each.
Then all of a sudden I smacked his hand away and he said 'holy s*** that was fast!'
I slept there the rest of the night and he never did that again.

Rep Power: 37 | | hahaha thats how i basicaly spar
When stuff starts flying there is not enough time to actualy 'think' about what your doing and where your trying to go. The only thing left becomes to simply trust your reflexs and allow yourself to react naturaly. Its all to easy to take appart a fighter who is second guessing themselves.
The idea imho SHOULD be to attain the right methods of dealing with various types of force though application and drilling and form. You then move to sparring as a way of testing your structure under preasure and seeing how well your capable of reacting under duress. Its nearly impossible to actualy 'plan as you go' when your sparring and the idea of thinking several moves ahead is ludicrious - this is not chess and you cant take time to make your move. You must simply allow your body to go though the motions it has learnt and react as it sees fit.
Infact the best mind for sparring is always a DEAD simple one.
I have a few
Either - i wanna be over there ill think ill get there.
Or - I dont want to keep exchanging i think ill stick and follow.
Or - My opponent seems lax i think ill blow strait though middle and see what happens.
I NEVER plan movments in advance as in my experience everytime i have they have been taken appart easily and ive met the floor. To me fighting is reacting not planning.
This is just my opinions and experience its not any particular method or anything.

Rep Power: 0 | | | I was sleeping beside a guy and backfisted him in the face when I rolled over. I also side thrusted a kid instinctively after someone threw a binder at me and he picked it up and made a movement to hit me with it. At the time I was somewhat scared of things and had to show that I was tough. Now I don't really bother with it (MUCH... before any of you mention my fight ;p). Other than that I can only remember blocking and dodging things without realizing it. |

Rep Power: 10 | | Quite a few times. That reminds me of what Bruce Lee said. "Don't think; feel, it is like a finger pointing the way to the moon " If you were to get into a fight, then thinking about; well, I'm gonna do this when he swings, and then I'll go for that, it will never happen. When you start to think, you start to hesitate. You may even doubt a little about will it work. Or, maybe what you wanted to do you can't do because the way he's moving, or whatever. So, it is a bad idea to plan out fights like that I think. You should just let your body flow freely, like water. Without unnecessary movement. Just do what is necessary to win the fight. You should be trying to fight with him, not predict his moves before they come, thats almost impossible

now, im just used of it. but id say i do more of the blocking/dodging things without thinking in everyday situations like migo said. |

Rep Power: 10 | | Faster than thought Unfortunately, yes. In December,1969, I had just come back from Vietnam and had a leave to spend the holidays with my parents. I spent a couple of days with an aunt, whose husband had been a WWII veteran, and she asked me to spend a couple of night's at her house to 'wind down'. The first night, we stayed up until about 2 A.M. talking. I went to bed and was just getting to sleep when a car backfired outside in the street. My aunt immmediately came into the room-guess she knew what she'd find-to find me sound asleep under the bed. She woke me and I went back to bed and sleep. I went home a couple of days later. The first night home, I told my parent's not to touch me when they woke me up, and I explained to them why. The next morning, sure enough, my mother came in to wake me and leaned down and shook my shoulder. Fortunately, I didn't hit her hard enough to do damage, but she wound up on the floor about 3 feet from the bed. Then, I woke and realized what had happened. I apologized profusely, only to have her tell me that it had been her mistake to touch me before I was awake, as my aunt had told her and my father what may happen and why. Fortunately, she was not hurt, but it illustrated the fight or flight reaction that is inherent on the battlefield and on the street when faced with danger or perceived danger.
