Rep Power: 9 | | | clf devil do you mean between styles because if you do except for cousin styles there never was . quaulity went down with the money made during the first bruce lee movies convincing the unquaulified they could teach cranking them out like bad cookies. another point was when lawsuits became part of big mouths sending out challenges and when someone accepted yelled !!wheres my lawyer!!. this happened to one of my students when he accepted a public challenge. we were better of when we cleaned our own plates out of sight of the general public . also when the first chinese movies came out in english like the hand of death with the glowing hand in north america misunderstood something !! they were pure entertainment not truth !! thats what they were not a training film . no one except little kids in chinatown thought it was real they knew different. in vancouver chinatown the toughest roughest fighters came from Wong Ha clf school. this wasnt in tournements as they was non but in the street , bars as bouncers ect. it got lost in holliwood fu the unquaulified or unethical taught.

Buk Sing always produces hardcore fighters.

No more need be said!
The others are broken down to selling forms and don't care about applications because it will cut their profits and frauds that don't know anything useful to begin with.
Just my thoughts though....

I am not trying to bash the army combatives training done everywhere. From what I have seen and heard levels 1- 4 (or 5 cant remember) are great. I thought combatives where great when I was stationed at Fort Benning (basic training) but once I got to Fort Gordon I started seeing a degradation in the teaching. Here in Korea the person teaching the Company (during PT) is level 1 certified and has a tendency to like sparring and talks highly of the UFC to the point of bad mouthing alot of the more traditional styles. everyone is entitled to an opinion but when I last faced someone in my company during one of these sessions (and I very rearly go to morning PT do to mission requirements) I beat a person who had a clear advantage over me, I had him in the Gaurd but he had the reach so that mattered little. The end result was he lost even though he is there every week and I am not. Im not a ground fighter I want to end it before it hits the ground (yes I know thats a weakness that must be addressed) but he should have won just out of more training and he didnt. The point of the rant is, The idea is GREAT!! but outside of Fort Benning or even actual level Certification courses the quality of teaching is quit low. They stress that these methods will work but has continually shown that most the people (no offense usually there women) have no Idea what to do if there grabbed and feel no more confedent they can handle themselves after the unit level training. Hope I made this readable today seems to be a dyslexic kind of day. |

If there is a way to stress absolute no qualifications to teach it would be me since I have around a total combined 5 years martial arts experience and thats over a long period of time in 3 styles or so. But I would take a measure of there abilities, if its only self-confidence they lack and nothing else maybe see if they are even interested in going and then giving them some additional attention if they are. If not, in class have them spar a little more often as well as other thing (such as an additional complement if they do well) to boost there cofedence. In any event the bottom line is what does "said instructor" believes is best for them. Only you can decide if there ready and just need a push, or if they need more work. It sounds like they have the heart and intent so they may just need an opertunity to let the Tiger out of the Bag. |

Rep Power: 9 | | | in my last post on this thread l refered to a student of mine who took up a challenge . as one of my last posts l was refering to mike doucet in ontario he was challenged by a guy in the us . it was all over southern fist . one you dont hear from much . he was going to arrange to come out to b.c. and provide a hotel room and all ammenities before the challenge match for doo wai ,mike is the most dedicated student l ever had he at this time is putting out the best as he is the best l have taught . d.w. spent many posts about lawsuits ect after and he was the one who posted the challenge in the first place. this is not to start a war just to make clear some misunderstandings . l am not going to post anymore as some are not taken the way they were ment . l dont need this . l will be 72 in a few days and leave this area to all of the young people. mike by the way is one of the few who breaks down sets and teaches how its used to his students and doesnt just teach dance classes |
