Rep Power: 87 | | | Breaking boards I am starting to prepare for my purple sash test. My school is not big on board breaking, but we do break boards for this test. A variety of breaks with different punches and kicks. I think partly to make sure we feel some practical application to having the right snap, hit with the right part of your body, and also to mentally prove to yourself that you can do something that most of us would not think we could do before.
So,I have a little time before I start doing this, and was wondering if anyone had tips for board breaking? Any experiences they might want to share?

Rep Power: 220 | | We tend to avoid breaking though train IP.
Biggest piece of advice I can give is remain relaxed, keep everything loose on palm strikes and when doing other breaks keep everything loose until the instant you hit then tighten up as you contact.
Congrats on the promotion

Rep Power: 24 | | | Back when I did TKD I was our teams designated board breaker for competetion. Bottom line, confidence. Board breaking is really all smoke a mirrors once you realize it's not that hard, so just have confidence and you'll do fine.

Rep Power: 30 | | | If you wimp out of your punch, your hand will bounce off. If you throw it with the intent of going right through, it WILL go through. This is one of those moments in MA that you change the way you think as a person. I have just went through this whilst trying to learn a particular throw.
Apply what you learn from board breaking in real life. If you enter something half-heartedly it will fail, if you go in intelligently, and confidently you will succeed in things in life. | |
