If you do it and like it...then it shouldnt matter what others think should it

This should be under external styles...so I have moved it there.
Thanks!

I've have not taken the style, but I have a few friends who did it for a few years (I think one of them got up to brown belt or something). All of them said they thought it was pretty cool until they took Kung Fu. Then they said they had no idea how "crappy" (for lack of a better word) Shotokan was compared to Kung Fu. BUT that is just their opinion.

it does not matter about other people opinions, if something helps you too defend yourself then you should learn to use it. but as long as you enjoy it then thats al that matters

What is the purpose of this poll

I have found in my limited experience that there are no bad martial arts, only bad martial artists. :evil1:

I took Shotokan when I was in Junior High school (I only got to a blue belt level) and the basics I learned from that class helped me out emmensly when I started doing more advanced internal arts later on in life. I did not care much for the head instructor there, but I gained some very valuable basics (and physical ability) from the class.

I believe it would be foolish to condemn a whole art based on a few bad apples.

I will take your word about shotokan being a good martial art as I am rather ignorant on the subject myself, I am sure that it has many admirable qualities and as long as you are enjoying it, continue enjoying it do your martial art many good things and live well in the process.
