Rep Power: 7 | | | Can Any One Tell Me About Kajukembo? Any information on the style is helpful. I am thinking of joining a class at this school. The school is in vancouver, washington. Its taught by a Sifu Derek but I am not sure if thats his first or last name. If you know anything about the style or the teacher, please tell me! |

Rep Power: 63 | | Kajukenbo was founded by several martial artists supposedly. The most famous being Al Dacascos, whose son is actor Mark Dacascos ("Only the Strong", "The Crow" TV series, ect...).
The art is supposed to be a mixture of kung fu kenpo and 3 other arts I believe. You could get more info doing a web search on google.com. I have never met or seen anyone do this art, but have read some pretty good things about Al Dacascos.

Don't leave out Le Pac De Loupes (Brotherhood of the Wolf). French import film, came out here about the same time as Blade 2. F*cking owned. I liked it better than Blade 2.

Rep Power: 25 | | | You guys are leaving out one practitioner that any Kajukenbo student worth his weight in salt should recognize, John Leoning. Sifu Leoning was a good friend of my Sifu's before his untimely death some time ago. John Leoning also studied kung fu under such greats as Share Lew and Wong Ark Yuey so if this is any hint at the effectiveness of the style then I would say its a good system or he wouldnt have fooled with it. I know here are alot of very good kajukenbo stylist in Hawaii, thats where John Leoning was from and many organizations there still carry on his name. My Sifu has told us about the style and has quiet a bit of respect for it which is rare (most kung fu guys dont praise karate and most karate guys dont praise kung fu) and from what I here its a more simplified version of our kung fu but still very effective. If I were you I'd check out the system, see what you think, then decid for yourself.

Rep Power: 32 | | I have a cousin-in-law that studies Kujekenbo out here in the SF Bay Area. As far as I know, it's a cross between quite a few different arts, Karate, Judo, Kenpo, Jujitsu, and Chuan Fa.
According to Kajukenbo.org the founder of the style is Adriano D. Emperado and his brother.
But according to this site, Kajukenbo info , the 5 founding members were, Frank Ordonez, P.Y.Y. Choo, Joe Holck, Clarence Chang, and Adriano Emperado.
Seems to me there is some "internal" issues with who the founding members are, like some CMA.

Rep Power: 63 | | Le Pacte de Loupes Yeah, I saw that one NinjaKlown...it was a very good movie..but I didnt like how they killed off Mark Dacascos.
lol
I dont think they should kill the star of the movie...they should have made the other guy get killed (role reversal)

Rep Power: 63 | | You are right.. I forgot about Emperado, Dacascos just seems to be the most "bamous" teacher of kajukenbo. I believe the most common belief is that Emperado along w/4 others created the art.
It sounds like a good art to me, but I havent seen it...just heard good things about it being versatile.

Rep Power: 39 | | Wun Hop Kuen Do was founded by Sifu Al Dacascos and is one of the four branch styles of the Kajukenbo Martial Art System. In 1947, five martial artists got together and formed the Kajukenbo Self-defense Institute. There are currently four branch styles within the Kajukenbo system including: Kajukenbo Kenpo, Tum Pai, Ch'uan-Fa and Wun Hop Kuen Do.
This is quite a coincidence, I am attending a Kajukembo seminar tonight. It is taught by a good friend of mine Sensei Todd Martin who teaches out of New Berlin WI. Sensei Todd is a phenominal martial artist, he has techniques for all occasions. I have known and trained with him for 5 years. He has never shown me a technique that can't be readily applied in a practical manner. Keep in mind, as I stated berfore, I do not believe there are any bad martial arts, only bad martial artists (this includes stdents and instructors).
All in all, my expiriences with Kajukembo have been very good ones. |

Rep Power: 39 | | FYI One of the links animal_stylez provided had an impressive family tree that got me thinking and doing some more investigation.
I hate to keep bugging you guys with info you may or may not be paricularly interested in, but I'll get over it.
Adriano Emperado trained under William Chow, who trained under the 21st successor of my art, Kosho Ryu Kempo (translated into "Old pine tree school of natural law"), O'Sensei James Mitose. Which may explain some of the striking simiarities between our two arts. | |
