I have often wondered what she looks like...
She seems like a very interesting individual. I wonder if my mental image of her would be anything like the real her...

What?
MMA's a ruleset. It is a testing ground, a proving ground for your skills. San Shou's a ruleset. San Da, Lei Tai, they are all rulesets and proving grounds for your skills. If you look at our Bak Sing cousins, all of them compete, all of them do kickboxing tournaments, San Shou, etc, to test themselves. Nothing's wrong with testing.
Take your Jit Fu Joi for example. What is it good for? Parrying a straight kick without breaking your forearm. Some guys use a front kick in kickboxing to eat up space and get in close, so this move definitely comes in hand, even with big poofy gloves, _especially_ with big poofy boxing gloves. That yeurng-kiu? AWESOMELY done with boxing gloves on! That double dart-choy? I've seen half of it used by Thai boxers! I could go on and on. So many combinations and so many techniques, tactics, so much of the footwork comes in so handy in competition. Head over to aaradia's school and check out their pankration program, you might be pleasantly surprised. |

Rep Power: 41 | | | I agree taking rules out of any sport is going to make them really different. And, if trained hard with the right intent, CLF can be truly devastating (as are all MAs). And yes the competition ground is an excellent way to test yourself! But as long as there are rules (which CLF has rules too) its always going to be subjective....which is not bad. You just have to remember if you start bleeding too much on the street (or your oponent) no one will stop the fight. |

Rep Power: 220 | | | I love the idea that MMA players can't fight in real life, because they train a sport.
1.) They have better cardio than the majority of TMA players so they can fight longer/harder.
2.) They train a fighting sport using fighting skills/martial arts against non-compliant opponents who hit them back hard as hell, just like on the street.
3.) I have as to date not met one MMA fighter who was so stupid as to not train for different encounters outside of a sport competition or who was such a meat head that he/she couldn't adapt to a street fight.
4.) I have seen more MMA people involved in real street fights kick the living ship out of the person they were fighting due to their training and skill set variety compared to a number of TMA people I've seen get the ship whooped out of them for their non Alive training methods and their mentality.
That aside, one isn't better than the other, though the methods to the one definitely are, but too many people who have no clue what they're spouting about are the problem. | |
