Rep Power: 4 | | | The Uppercut From many boxers, the upper cut is a secondary and launched from a bob/weave position.
However, other boxers use it as a primary to lift the opponents head in order to set up or follow through with a hook/cross.
The uppercut, per its mechanics is "hardly" different from a palm strike to the same target-under the chin.
Striking the chin in such a fashion can cause paralysis, mild concussion, and
unconsciousness. The jawbone acts as a lever that can transmit the force of a blow to the back of the brain where the cardiac and respiratory mechanisms are controlled.
The action upon the chin, forces the head to snap back, causes pressure in certain areas of the posterior neck. Such pressure on the cervical vertebrae. Some would constitute this as whiplash, but the defining action of whiplash has no force upon the head, such as a strike to the head in any manner. (Whiplash- The head, with no force acting upon it, remains static in space, resulting in forced extension of the neck as the shoulders travel anteriorly under the head. Following extension, the inertia of the head is overcome, and it is also accelerated forward. The neck then acts as a lever to increase the forward acceleration of the head and force the neck into flexion.) |

The point, as with any forum, is to dicuss or communicate.
Forget the author;
Do you like the article?
Do you like uppercuts?
Do I have to post questions at the end of each thread to get responses? |
