If you're a business owner, a certificate will get more people in the door. That's its entire value. But if you're a cr*ppy MA'ist or personal trainer, those people will go out the door pretty fast, too.

Rep Power: 108 | | | I am actually still mulling over the possibility of giving out certificates to my student. I am about 70% in the NO catagory. Its a slippery slope, but it can also be pretty motivating to hang on the wall.

Rep Power: 108 | | I think with my group it would be a Certificate of Ass Kicking. We use that phrase a lot. It really settled in when we first started sparring and just about everyone was throwing kicks at my ass and me goin, "you guys are kicking my butt here".

Rep Power: 39 | | | I have to agree with the certifications. I want something/someone to tell me I know enough to teach. I dont want to go out selling what little skils I may have. When I decide to start teching I want quality skills to be able to teach so I can kinda see a bit of value in having a cert. the problem is, as has already been stated, there is too much diversity to know if one cert is as good as another. |

...anyhow, from our acupuncture school: SONG OF DISCOVERING THE TAOIST DISCIPLE Discuss strategies with him to observe his intelligence and judgment; Debate with him to know his temperament and tolerance; Efforts in study and learning show his initiative; Practicing what has been learned shows diligence and dedication; Humility shows his maturity and wisdom; Assign him work and discover his competence; Cooperation and willingness show sincerity; See him handle money to know his virtue; Tell him of difficulties and hardship ahead, then know his courage; Working with others, he reveals his selflessness and leadership; In misfortune and danger, learn of his true loyalty and friendship. His achievements reveal his real self discipline.

Rep Power: 143 | | the way that can be spoken of
is not the constant way
the name that can be named
is not the constant name
the nameless was the beginning of heaven and earth
the named was the mother of the myriad creatures
hence always rid yourself of desires in order to observes its secrets
but always allow yourself to have desires in order to observe its manifestations
these two are the same
but diverge in name as they issue forth
being the same they are called mysteries
mystery upon mystery
the gateway of the manifold secrets
