Rep Power: 220 | | | His power was issued solely from the shoulder.
Because his techniques are obviously without real strength and control, he just lightly grabs his opponent and were his opponent to actually fight back instead of being the compliant pansy ass he is, he'd break free of all those grabs and locks, they suck.
How were they sloppy? When he has to reposition his grab because it didn't lock on, or has to reposition his legs/core because it didn't work, and the fact there was no real power and those techniques were just the type used by people with no understanding of real fighting, their knowledge comes from never being pressure tested and always being used against compliant non actively resistant partners tells me it's sloppy. |

Why is that guy covered in protection gear if they were only gonna go at half speed. It's as if he has never learned that Taiji can/should be practiced at all speeds from extremely slow to as fast as possible.
It is hard to be 100% about certain things just seeing a video, but I agree, he is not using Taiji spiral power. It looks like it's up in his shoulders most of the time.
Partner compliance to the max.

The premise of these take downs are sound as they can be seen is just about every combat art. His center of gravity in motion is off, his timing is off, in most cases only his arm is executing the throw, he often has to make an adjustment step before or during the execution wich relates to his timing.
Uke is punching like a knob and becoming static. Now if Tatto guy had excellent timing then Uku could stay in motion with the intent to keep fighting and still get taken down.
Its all experience.

Rep Power: 81 | | | ok this chin na is better. I dont know if hes saying the things that I would say are missing though. Still he has better structure and posture.
But you can tell this is a very basic or introductory class so hes just teaching the various holds.
1. no one lets you hold them and jack them up unless you give them something else to think about.
2. Any given Chin na or Shuai are almost always the result of the incoming motion. Almost always. And the few throws/takedowns you can move directly into on a static opponent are very overwhelming motions.

Rep Power: 3 | | | Fair do’s if the whole world says you are wrong you are either a genius or plain wrong. And I never said I was a genius. Could any one post more examples of good take downs. Trouble is it’s hard to know the good from the bad if you haven’t seen much of the good. |

Rep Power: 81 | | | Wow a lot of nice clean takes. But lets get som that are a little more combative rather than sport.

Rep Power: 153 | | | Just adding my 2 cents here, as we're all trampling merrily into territory that's been covered over and over and over.
The first vid -- I agree with the critiques, but I feel there is a place and time for such static demonstration and practice of techniques. As in, "here is the cleanest way to show and teach this takedown move so that a student will not only understand the technique but perform the movements precisely.
My pet peeve with such demonstrations is that, all too often, they are the only practice a student gets at a traditional school. There is no transition from clean demonstration to practical (and messy) application.
The reason for this ties into just about every "what's wrong with traditional martial arts" thread on this forum so I'm not going to go into that.
Instead, let's talk about how you, as an instructor right now, can take students up to the next notch, from static practice to confident usage? If you're already getting your students there, how are you doing it?
