I only scored five out of those questions so I guess I flunk.

Actually I had no trouble with multiplication tables & I don't mix up numbers but I can't do figures in my head at all, and barely on my fingers, I have to write the math down to do it. If I can't solve the problem it bugs me until I can.

I'm probably OCD but that's something of an advantage for a copy editor. The disadvantage is my time management goes to cr@p while I weed out evil stray apostrophes.

it's a joke...

read this:

Many children dislike taking medication, so rather than force injections or pills, we administer any medications we can with respirators cleverly installed in our showers. We make taking medicine fun! All your junior has to do to get his day’s worth of Respiritol is take a quick stroll into our communal bathing showers, scrub his nethers, pass out on the floor, and wake up wondering why his asthma is under control and his head is a tad bit bandaged. Everybody wins!

can't be serious

right???

ive always been really good with numbers

and three dimesional (four if you add movement) stuff

but when i was young i was taught a strange way of writting

Spelling Society : ita efficiency & prospects.

although this gives a rather one sided version of i. t. a.

it totally screwed my english up cause after a couple of years of doing that

i was then taught the 'proper' way of spelling

and i just cant get my head around it

as i try to read the words phonetically and they make no sense

for years i didnt read anything that didnt have numbers or pictures to explain what was going on

also when it comes to large slabs of text my eyes wonder so it takes three times as long to read

Welcome to the fold you are defiantly one of us!!

DYSLEXICS OF THE WORLD UNTIE!!

From what you say it sounds as if you could benefit from some phonics training. Before anyone can spell phonetically they must first be able to distinguish sounds, many dyslexics have trouble with this. But you can train your ear with the right practice.

If the contrast of black letters on a white page makes your eyes wander you might benefit from using coloured classes or overlays (although this doesn’t apply to all dyslexics). The human eye is not designed to track left-right in a straight line. It is meant to crisscross the environment looking for food/danger. You actually need to build muscle strength buy regular reading otherwise your eyes will tend to wander. (This applies to everyone dyslexic or not). If you read slowly or avoid reading you may not have the necessary muscle strength. One totally amazing solution to the reading problem is text to speech programmes. I use “read and write” you can set the reading speed and it will highlight as it reads so you can practice tracking.

Where are you based? If you are in the UK you are entitled to provision of assistive equipment in the work place.

to be honest tom it doesnt effect my live in anyway

so although i am aware of it

i have found ways of dealing with it

like using a ruler when i am reading

so the rest of the text does distract my eyes

and my work is based around 3D modelling and experimental work

which suits me fine

That’s great. The experience of dyslexia varies for everyone. Different dyslexics use different solutions to different problems. I personally find text to speech really useful (although after getting it to read out my last post maybe I could use it for error checking more).

I do find it particularly useful for reading off computer screens. It works on HTML so it’s great for reading long posts on the forum.
