possibly, I sound dubious only because I was sure I was going to get to meet Greenhorn this weekend, but it fell through.
"Mysterious person?" Are you referring to my post or Beknar's? I am confused.

Rep Power: 29 | | | You're mysterious. Some people think you're a cyborg ninja, not a person.

oookkkkk then......
I am guessing that "some people" means one CLF Devil all by himself. But if I'll agree to your strange theory if it means I get to meet Jeri Ryan (7 of 9)

Rep Power: 82 | | Doh! you said cyborg and i interpreted that as "borg."
In my defense I can only say I'm tired and any excuse to pull up a picture of Jeri Ryan is a good one!

*Someone* forgot to pay the fee to let us at least keep the name. And THEN someone ELSE (some website domain hoarder) snapped up the name before we could pay for it.
I am pretty bummed, but I guess that's the way it goes. I should have snapped it up myself, just to save it for us. |

Rep Power: 29 | | | So one of Sifu Ng's students messaged me on another forum. He says you can basically train each day for as long as you feel like and that his Sifu doesn't enforce too much. He told me that you're expected to do "solo forms" from 7:30 to 9:30.
Personally, I'm sick of doing "solo forms" for 1.5 hours every single class. I did that my first 2 years or so of CLF. It didn't do jack crap for me as far as fighting principles go. I'm sorely disappointed to hear that this method is still prevalent. I'll see if I can find out more about Sifu Ng's training methods for his students, but honestly, I'd rather hit the bag, do some sets, lift some weights, and do some sam sing on a flag pole on my own time, without spending any money.
Any thoughts? I'm being selfish? Honestly I - JUST - want to learn to fight with CLF. That's what the system is designed for no? I think forms are great and teach you great fundamentals. I think doing them by yourself for 8+ hours a week is a stupid waste of time.

Rep Power: 82 | | | Sounds like you should keep searching for an Instructor that suits you better. You do MA for fun right? If you are studying under someone where you don't relate to how he does things, then you won't get the most of it and you won't have fun.
It isn't an indication of a good instructor or a bad one, not an issue of a right or wrong way to teach, but of what is suited for YOU. I am sure there are plenty of other CLF schools. L.A. is HUGE! Keep looking and good luck! Keep us posted in how the search goes.

Rep Power: 29 | | | Thanks Aaradia! I will definitely keep looking, I also won't let a few words on the internet deter me from trying out classes and whatnot.
After getting back into high gear and starting to train pretty hardcore again, I wanna get a LA-based "CMA (but others welcomed too) focused sparring group" together if possible. I wanna use my CLF in combat, it's what I love to do and I know it works (I've used it in a couple of fights). If I go to a MMA gym they expect me to do MMA. If I go to a boxing gym they teach me boxing. Those are wonderful systems (you can argue they are better than CLF all day but that does nothing for me personally) but I like my style and I'm intent on using it to its full capabilities, gloves on or not. That's why I want to focus on CLF combat, sparring and application training against other stylists and people that are better than me. I feel like such a group could bring a great boon to the local CMA community, make everyone a little bit better at fighting and increase their understanding of their respective styles, and basically bring back how CMA "should" be practiced, against live people trying to hurt you, and vice versa.
I'm still in low gear right now but if people are interested shoot me PM's and hell, I really want to get such a thing together if possible and people are interested.
Peace

Rep Power: 7 | | | Here's what we do in my class in San Diego, if you were interested:
Stretching
You go for a run (good lord I hate this, I hate running)
Knuckle pushups, other misc strength training
Ng Lun Ma, Six Horse
Sam Sing
Hit the pads for what seems like a long time
Line drills
San Sau
Chin-Na
Spar (for intermediates)
I'm still in the beginner crew, so I have to find my own outlets for sparring.
Come on by, maybe once a month. I'm sure my teacher can give you a break on tuition if you're only going to be showing up once a month.
