Rep Power: 7 | | | Fakk!! I'm in Atlanta from the 11th to the 14th in september.
If you guys decide to change it to the weekend after I'm game.
Otherwise maybe every month or every couple of months we can do this. |

Rep Power: 29 | | | I'm hoping every month. Beknar also said he is free from the 20th to 21st. So those days might be better for everyone? Also gives me more time to prepare hehe.
On another note:
I REALLY REALLY REALLY need to quit cigarettes. This will force me to quit.
I tried smoking just now, I just did 1.5 hours of CLF - nothing but drills and combinations at full blast. When I tried smoking, it felt like my lungs were rejecting the nicotine.
So yeah. But I'm working on it. :/

I don't understand... if you specialize in joint manipulation then your specialty should be ground fighting, not stand-up. Joint manipulation while standing is replete with variables. The use of the ground as a third party in a fight is the primary principle of ground fighting and joint manipulation as it reduces the variables.
I am just having trouble understanding the emphasis on principle here.... Any style that claims joint manipulation as a specialty but neglects the basic principle of using the ground as a third party seems negligent...
It's kind of like saying "Our specialty is knockouts but we favor the ground game more..."....

Rep Power: 163 | | | I'm well aware of the vast difference. That is my point. Stand-up joint manipulation is based on low percentage, relatively ineffective principles. It would seem that anyone that wanted to "specialize" in joint manipulation would gravitate towards the more fundamentally based principles of such.

Rep Power: 21 | | | Even though I'm not a grappler per se, I have to agree with Cam on this point. I've been experimenting with my Qinna (Chin na) techniques that I learned in Wing Chun so far. I find that some of them work even better when slightly modified and having the ground as a third party helps a great deal. |

Rep Power: 40 | | | In my experience, realistic stand-up locks/joint manipulation, often begins with the clinch or during a FUT ( F***ed Up Tangle. Southnark's term. ). The clinch situation in live sparring, will end up on the ground more than half the time ( that is a modest stat ).

Rep Power: 21 | | | Have to agree there. Lost count of how many times I've gone to the ground during a grapple/clinch. |

Rep Power: 29 | | | Yep that's why I'm keen on learning BJJ, hopefully I have the time/money to learn it relatively soon.
I need to get my CLF polished more though. It's a bit rusty.

Rep Power: 163 | | | I would learn the BJJ first then go back and polish the CLF. Trust me... after learning BJJ you will look at CLF a lot differently... I know after I learned the ground game I had to go back and re-evaluate everything I thought I knew about the stand-up game.

Rep Power: 29 | | | You make a valid point. I want to learn straight up BJJ (or submission wrestling, etc) not an MMA school/curriculum. Is there any in the Los Angeles area that you recommend Cam?
Thanks.

Rep Power: 163 | | | LA is a very big area and I am sure there are a LOT of schools there. Can you be more specific to your location?

Rep Power: 21 | | | I have to say I got tromped on this morning. Did some sparring with a guy who trains in Muay Thai. While his ground fighting was worse than mine (Thank God), but his striking.... I'm going to be black and blue for sometime. | |
