Joining a boxing gym

So the guy that lives across the hall from me is an amateur boxer with a couple of fights under his belt. He has invited me to go train with him at his gym and I accepted.

I think I can pick up some really useful skills from boxing - distance, timing, etc. I think my CLF will also improve naturally.

For you purists that think I'm somehow dishonoring my system, I'm just trying to become a better fighter. Whatever it takes for that to happen. I want faster hand speeds and better skills on slipping/weaving. I have already done boxing while training at an MMA gym and with my sihing but not on a "pure" level.

Anyways I can only see this benefiting Choy Lay Fut not hurting it in any way. If I can throw chop choys faster that's a damned good thing.

Peace

I did a load of boxing a couple of years back-- it did worry me, getting hit in the bonce so much! I think it's a great aid to martial artist!

I think boxing techniques is even easier to assimilate into CLF than Wing Chun. I mean I've done it before so I can attest. I just want to learn some "pure" boxing at a high level you know what I mean.

Also I think some more contact will help bring out even more aggression in my CLF. The faster the hands can swing the better CLF automatically gets. The slower you go, the worse it is. It's all about damage in the shortest amount of time in CLF. That's why guys are so freaking aggressive.

And I am not aggressive enough right now IMHO. Gotta train harder . . . . .

Sounds good.

Boxing skills are simple to learn, but it takes LOTS of practice to really do it with skill.
