Rep Power: 153 | | | You'll probably have to go with a broad description martial arts, broken down by region or by class of arts. It's pretty ambitious to cover them all -- something like that would be more encyclopedic and cover a few volumes. If your target audience for Get Started in Martial Arts is people new to the arts, you don't want to overwhelm them, you want to motivate them to pick a good school and go!

Actualy there is a way to avoid the A-Z review (wich tends to be to be either so brief that its not worth reading or so long that it becomes an encyclopidea) and still fairly represent all martial arts. In fact you can do a reasonable introduction in a few chapters. You are however totaly right about the drive of the book it is about motivating people to find the right school and geting started. It is about the benifits of all arts and is non partisan.
The book is already written I am just looking for photos to compliment the text. The kind of subjects I am interested in are, history, culture, performance, competition, medicine, meditation, as well as the more obvious, striking, locking, throwing, sparring, forms and weapons.
If anyone could help I would be very grateful.
Tom

Rep Power: 4 | | | Thanks very much to those of you who have replied, just a point of clarification on the kind of subjects I am after.
The photos in my book have two purposes, to add a wow factor to draw the reader in (small framed ladies throwing heavy guys about with wristlocks etc) and, more important to me, to provide a flavour of the range of different arts available and of the cultures they come from.
The kind of subjects I am interested in are, history, culture, performance, competition, medicine, meditation, photos of a class in progress (lining up and salutes at the start, instructors teaching, stretching, strength and conditioning exercises) as well as the more obvious, striking, locking, throwing, sparring, forms and weapons.
I am not specificaly looking for any photos of "big names" (although i would not turn them down either).
One again all help gratefully received.
Tom
