Rep Power: 13 | | | Developing speed Hey all,
Got a tournament in September of this year and I was looking for some tips to get some additional foot and hand speed. I have been doing the typical stuff but was wondering if anyone has any tips or sites I can go to, to get some work outs. |

Rep Power: 18 | | | First you have to practice, practice and when you finished practicing, practice some more. Letting your body's mind register all movements will give you extra speed. And clear your mind.
Regards. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | strangely enough, i find the best thing for speed is to form regular sleeping patterns and eat small portions of food hourly instead of large meals (things like fish, rice, veggies, not beef or greasy foods)

as for training...hmmm, punching bag and go all out and practice your normal forms slowly, and keep building up untill you can hammer them out at lightning speed...all common sense i suppose... |

Rep Power: 168 | | | Bag drills, pad drills, repetition, repetition, repetition.
A few things you can do...
Elastic resistance bands.
Ankle and wrist weights.
Remember the game you played as a kid where you put your hands out palms up and the other person puts their hands palm down on yours and you try to slap him on the back of the hand before they can move it Great speed drill. Do some variations with the pads.
Also a variation of this...
Put both hands behind your head, the other person holds one hand out in front of them and you try to slap it before they can move it.
This can also be done with kicks.
Get the partner to hold pads out at different angles and you try to kick them before he can move them.
This will actuall work your speed and the partners reaction timing.
The key is repetition, repetition, repetition and consistency.
Peace-
Cam

I have a question with regards to ankle and wrist weights Is that hard on your joints I do tai chi and bagua with the two but those are traditionally slower. Have you had any problems using the two |

Rep Power: 168 | | | A lot of people wear ankle weights around all day to do daily routine in. While this will help build speed and strength, it will wear on the knees pretty hard. I don't reccommend this. I only use them to do the drills and excersises and I haven't suffered any complications.
Peace-

Rep Power: 18 | | | I agree with Lugaldamhara,
You can do "light" weight-lifting (I'd say no more than 30 min), but you have to practice more in order to keep your techinque in good shape. |
