I attended one of his seminars, and it really added a new spin to my qi gong practice. Generally, the man knows his stuff. Regarding the standing metitation - you can do standing meditation whitout any instrunction - just standing and observing and not doing anything. It is the first and final meditation method.

Rep Power: 4 | | | Strange replies. By the logic of no qigong which reguires one to leave society is good, well, then falun gong is the only one with high level available to the public. No other teacher is publically teaching advanced qigong in public. Remember up until the last few decades, true orthodox qigong schools and spiritual cultivation schools, were monastary arts!
I've done a a fair amount of qigong from good orthodox schools of the buddha's or the Tao's. IMO I'd say stick to Falun GOng is you cannot be a lineage holder under an orthodox master, it's really good and powerful! IMO through consistent study and practice alot of benefit and skill can be got out of it
However, Falun Gong does not seek out students, if you want to do it and if it resonates in you, that is your own business. In the past ages, such things were just not available. Anyone is free to come and leave as they please, and no fees are ever charged.

Rep Power: 5 | | I've read some interviews with Falungong's founder, Li Hongzhi. He doesn't seem too tightly wrapped, making weird claims about the Earth being controlled by aliens and other strange stuff. Falungong doesn't have any martial application whatever to their practises, and the practitioners I've met certainly didn't have any kung fu. My overall impression is that they are selling snake-oil disguised as qigong. |

Rep Power: 4 | | | Never met a psychotic practitioner, only very rational clear minded people. There are many things humankind does not fully understand, but the day to day cultivation practice involves becoming a better person and thinking of others first and forging tolerance, not anything else really. But it is a serious practice and important for the future of humankind in this day and age. |

Rep Power: 4 | | Report from amnesty
Members of unofficial spiritual or religious groups, including some Qi Gong groups and unregistered Christian groups, continued to be arbitrarily detained, tortured and ill-treated.
Rhetoric intensified in the official media against the Falun Gong spiritual movement, which was banned as a ¡°heretical organization¡± in July 1999, apparently exacerbating the climate of violence and intolerance against the Falun Gong. Detained Falun Gong practitioners, including large numbers of women, were at risk of torture, including sexual abuse, particularly if they refused to renounce their beliefs. According to overseas Falun Gong sources, more than 800 people detained in connection with the Falun Gong had died since 1999, mostly as a result of torture or ill-treatment.
Deng Shiying reportedly died on 19 July, the day after her release from Jilin Women¡¯s Prison in Changchun City, Jilin Province, where she was serving a seven-year prison sentence in connection with producing and distributing information describing human rights violations against Falun Gong practitioners in China. According to Falun Gong sources, she was beaten by other inmates, apparently prompted by prison officials, shortly before her release.
Whole article here: http://web.amnesty.org/report2004/chn-summary-eng
According to incomplete statistics, within the past five years beginning on July 20, 1999, more than 1076 practitioners have been verified as being tortured to death in over 30 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. However, according to the government's official internal statistics, the actual number of practitioners who died after being arrested had reached 1,600 by the end of 2001. In addition, there are at least 6,000 Falun Gong practitioners who have been illegally sentenced to prison. Over 100,000 practitioners have been sentenced to forced labor camps. Thousands of practitioners have been forcefully sent to psychiatric hospitals to be tortured with injections that are damaging to the central nervous system. Large groups of Falun Gong practitioners have been forcefully sent to local brainwashing classes, where they have been subjected to both physical and mental torture. Many more practitioners have been severely beaten and had large sums of money extorted from them by so-called "law-enforcement officials." When large numbers of Falun Gong practitioners are beaten to death, injured, and their families are broken up, when they have to leave home and go from place to place because of the persecution, millions of Falun Gong practitioners' families, relatives, good friends and colleagues are also implicated and brainwashed to varying degrees.
Listed below are the names of the Falun Gong practitioners who have died from torture, and a brief description of their cases. Hopefully, these dreadful experiences and agonizing scenes will arouse consciences and stir hearts all over the world. http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/speci...eath_list.html
U.S. House of Representatives Unanimously Passes Resolution Urging Chinese Government to Cease Its Oppression of Falun Gong Practitioners in the United States and in China
At 8pm Eastern Time on October 4, 2004, the House of the Representatives in the U.S. unanimously passed H. Con. Resolution 304, expressing the sense of Congress regarding oppression by the Government of the People's Republic of China of Falun Gong in the United States and in China. The resolution expressed the sense that the Government of the People's Republic of China should immediately stop interfering in the exercise of religious and political freedoms within the United States, such as the right to practice Falun Gong, that are guaranteed by the United States Constitution, cease using the diplomatic missions in the United States to spread falsehoods about the nature of Falun Gong, and release from detention all prisoners of conscience, including practitioners of Falun Gong.
The H. Con. Res. 304 was initiated by Florida Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and co-sponsored by 75 congresspeople. It was unanimously passed yesterday evening (October 4) by the representatives.
The resolution expressed the sense that the president of the United States should take actions such as working more closely with Chinese human rights activists to identify Chinese authorities who have been personally responsible for acts of violence and persecution in the People's Republic of China; and the Attorney General should investigate reports that Chinese consular officials in the United States have committed illegal acts while attempting to intimidate or inappropriately influence Falun Gong practitioners or local elected officials, and, in consultation with the Secretary of State, determine an appropriate legal response. |

Rep Power: 4 | | A Post I found from another forum-
"OK! First let us see what is the truth of Self-immolation.
After the immolation incident occurred on January 23, 2001, the Chinese Government's mouthpiece, Xinhua News Agency, immediately published a report on the incident entirely blaming Falun Gong practitioners for the immolation. This was in stark contrast to the way news is usually handled in China, where lower-level officials report to their superiors and so on until the top officials allow the news to be published. Soon after the news was released, the Falun Dafa Information Center in New York published a press release on the morning of January 23 (US eastern time) condemning the Xinhua News Agency for spreading unfounded, defamatory claims about Falun Gong. It also called on the PRC regime to allow the world media and international human rights groups to investigate this case to clarify the facts.
A week later, CCTV, the Chinese Central Government's official TV station, broadcasted heartbreaking pictures of the 12-year-old Liu Siying, who was severely burned. Her mother Liu Chunling died from the self-immolation. The government is intensifying the campaign against Falun Gong by forcing every citizen to sign a form condemning Falun Gong. They are using the pictures of Liu Siying to instigate the public's hatred towards Falun Gong, causing the Chinese people to fight amongst themselves. This kind of inciting the people to fight against each other was one of the main tactics used in the Cultural Revolution in China decades ago.
On February 4, 2001, Washington Post published a stunning front-page investigative report entitled: "Human Fire Ignites Chinese Mystery -- Motive for Public Burning Intensifies Fight Over Falun Gong." The article provided several facts including the following:
Please watch the video which based on Chinese CCTV, and see the truth!" http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/speci...mmolation.html |

Rep Power: 4 | | | "Let see the truth of 4.25.
Since the ending of the ¡°Great Cultural Revolution¡± in the late 1970¡¯s, China¡¯s focus has been shifted from political campaigning to economic and technological development. This change in the political climate has reduced the opportunities for political advancement for those who specialize in political propaganda and ideological battles. To remain necessary components of the government, these people typically rely on political unrest to provide them with a ¡°cause¡± used to gain political power. The rapid development of Falun Gong was noticed by some departments in the central government. Falun Gong, they decided, was just what was needed.
These individuals began by spreading negative publicity through government-run media to defame Falun Gong and its founder since June 1996. On July 24, 1996, the Chinese News Publication Office issued a nationwide circular banning the distribution of all Falun Gong publications. In early 1997, the Public Security Ministry of China began a nationwide investigation to gather evidence in the hopes of casting Falun Gong as an ¡°evil cult.¡± The investigations came to a quick end for ¡°no evidence was found.¡± In July 1998, another investigation was ordered by the Public Security Ministry, which resulted in the illegal harassment of Falun Gong practitioners by the local Public Security Bureau in a number of areas around the country. On April 23, 1999, police were ordered to beat and arrest people who expressed their concerns to a magazine in Tianjin, which had published a slanderous article against Falun Gong.
On April 24, 1999, when Falun Gong practitioners in Tianjin requested the release of the arbitrarily detained practitioners, they were told by the Tianjin government officials that the Public Security Ministry of China had been involved in this matter, so the arrested Falun Gong practitioners would not be released without authorization from Beijing. In short, Falun Gong practitioners were told they must take their appeal to the State Council Appeal Office in Beijing.
This triggered the April 25th incident during which Falun Gong practitioners appealed to the Chinese State Council Appeal Office for the release of the detained practitioners in Tianjin. After Premier Zhu Rongji, the official head of the State Council and second in command of the country under President Jiang, personally came out to meet with practitioners. The situation was handled in a friendly manner and a resolution was reached that was acceptable to both the government and the practitioners. The entire event was peaceful and characterized by orderliness and all the practitioners who had gathered outside the State Council Appeal Office quietly dispersed, content with Premier Zhu¡¯s handling of the issue" |

Rep Power: 100 | | | Would you care for some nuts? Interview with Li Hongzhi
Time Asia/May 10, 1999
"TIME: In your book [Zhuan Falun] you talk about people levitating off the ground but you say that they should not show other people. Why is that?
Li: It is the same principle that Western gods in paradise should not be seen by ordinary mortals because they cannot understand its meaning.
TIME: Have you seen human beings levitate off the ground?
Li: I have known too many.
TIME: Can you describe any that you have known?
Li: David Copperfield. He can levitate and he did it during performances.
Time: Why does chaos reign now?
Li: Of course there is not just one reason. The biggest cause of society's change today is that people no longer believe in orthodox religion. They go to church, but they no longer believe in God. They feel free to do anything. The second reason is that since the beginning of this century, aliens have begun to invade the human mind and its ideology and culture.
Time: Where do they come from?
Li: The aliens come from other planets. The names that I use for these planets are different . Some are from dimensions that human beings have not yet discovered. The key is how they have corrupted mankind. Everyone knows that from the beginning until now, there has never been a development of culture like today. Although it has been several thousand years, it has never been like now.
The aliens have introduced modern machinery like computers and airplanes. They started by teaching mankind about modern science, so people believe more and more science, and spiritually, they are controlled. Everyone thinks that scientists invent on their own when in fact their inspiration is manipulated by the aliens. In terms of culture and spirit, they already control man. Mankind cannot live without science.
The ultimate purpose is to replace humans. If cloning human beings succeeds, the aliens can officially replace humans. Why does a corpse lie dead, even though it is the same as a living body? The difference is the soul, which is the life of the body. If people reproduce a human person, the gods in heaven will not give its body a human soul. The aliens will take that opportunity to replace the human soul and by doing so they will enter earth and become earthlings.
When such people grow up, they will help replace humans with aliens. They will produce more and more clones. There will no longer be humans reproduced by humans. They will act like humans, but they will introduce legislation to stop human reproduction.
Time: Are you a human being?
Li: You can think of me as a human being.
Time: Are you from earth?
Li: I don't wish to talk about myself at a higher level. People wouldn't understand it.
Time: What are the aliens after?
Li: The aliens use many methods to keep people from freeing themselves from manipulation. They make earthlings have wars and conflicts, and develop weapons using science, which makes mankind more dependent on advanced science and technology. In this way, the aliens will be able to introduce their stuff and make the preparations for replacing human beings. The military industry leads other industries such as computers and electronics.
Time: But what is the alien purpose?
Li: The human body is the most perfect in the universe. It is the most perfect form. The aliens want the human body.
Time: What do aliens look like?
Li: Some look similar to human beings. U.S. technology has already detected some aliens. The difference between aliens can be quite enormous.
Time: Can you describe it?
Li: You don't want to have that kind of thought in your mind.
Time: Describe them anyway.
Li: One type looks like a human, but has a nose that is made of bone. Others look like ghosts. At first they thought that I was trying to help them. Now they now that I am sweeping them away.,
Time: How do you see the future?
Li: Future human society is quite terrifying. If aliens are not to replace human beings, society will destroy itself on its own. Industry is creating invisible air pollution. The microparticles in the air harm human beings. The abnormality in the climate today is caused by that [pollution], and it cannot be remedied by humans alone. The drinking water is polluted. No matter how we try to purify it, it cannot return to its original purity. Modern science cannot determine the extent of the damage. The food we eat is the product of fertilized soil. The meat we eat is affected. I can foresee a future when human limbs become deformed, the body's joints won't move and internal organs will become dysfunctional. Modern science hasn't realized this yet.
At the beginning you asked why I did such things. I only tell practitioners, but not the public because they cannot comprehend it. I am trying to save those people who can return to a high level and to a high moral level. Modern science does not understand this, so governments can do nothing. The only person in the entire world who knows this is myself alone." |

Rep Power: 5 | | Yeah, that's the interview I read. I'd forgotten just how crazy and arrogant he sounds, though...
People are certainly free to follow anyone they want, but I'd rather not put my spiritual development in that guy's hands, thank you very much.
As to whether they are psychotic or not, I'll leave that to everyone else to decide. My experience with them has been that once some Falungong people actually came into my T'ai Chi Ch'uan class trying to steal my students right out from under my nose. Literally telling the people that what Li taught was better qigong than what they were learning from me, while I was standing right there! Since they obviously weren't martial artists at all I didn't physically kick them out, but I did escort them out while lecturing them, kindly but firmly, on just how rude what they were doing was.
A cult? Maybe. Airheads? Certainly. | |
