golden bridge and stance training.

so if i have read correctly, wkk states that stance training develops internal energy of the legs, while the golden bridge develops energy of the arms.

Correct stance training develops "force" in the whole body.

Extending the arms out in a certain manner is of course better conditioning for shoulder, back and the arms themselves.

im not too sure on all the secret details.

but i think its holding your arms straight out in front of you, and holding them there as you do your stances, do it for an hour, then start adding weights i guess.

one important thing is to relax your body at the same time.

Donīt add weights, it will just force the wrong muscles into action. Just holding the arms out for 15 minutes is enough - I do stationary weight work for around 3 minutes, to avoid exhaustion of the musculature.

yeah, work with a progressive strategy, in approach to training.
know your limits and push yourself till you cant any longer plus a little more, remember just a little.

Golden Bridge

Golden Bridge (see pic) as taught by my teacher, Sifu Wong Kiew Kit, is a form of Zhan Zhuang or stance training. Various forms or postures of Zhan Zhuang develop energy in different ways. Specifically, Golden Bridge develops a pearl of energy at dantian and a sheath of protective energy around the arms.

In my experience, practicing Golden Bridge did exactly what Sifu Wong said it would -- make my sparring partners complain that my arms feel like wood. It also eliminated all of the the forearm bruises I used to get during sparring. It is significant to note that I did no external conditioning, but only Golden Bridge.

The methods for this exercise are detailed in Sifu's books, but it's best to learn from an instructor (unless you have prior experience in Zhan Zhuang). Also, adding weights is definitely not part of the method in our school.

Hope that helps.
