Rep Power: 0 | | | Recommendations on books? I've been practicing qi gong from a master but lessons became too expensive for my pocketbook. Plus, the drive was a little far too. I want to continue to learn more about qi gong so I'm wondering if there are any recommendations any of you have for books, etc.? I would appreciate any help you can provide. In the meantime, I'm trying to search for another teacher closer to my house and/or perhaps someone who has group lessons. Thanks. -Karen |

How 'bout the phone book? There must be someone nearby you can study with. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | Been there, done that....probably a few dozen times over several months. Been to many websites, directories on websites, made phone calls to masters who state that their qi gong classes are during the day (and since I work, that did not pan out). I was just looking for recommendations on self-study and knowledge learning. Thanks. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | I agree that a teacher is a must. Just cannot afford one at the moment Private lessons were getting costly. But the good news is that I finally persuaded my friend to teach me who has been doing qi gong for over 30 years and learned overseas. He is the one who got me hooked in the first place. I think now that I had the basics from an instructor, he is willing to teach me more. But thank you for your reply. I greatly appreciate it and was wondering if I asked a very stupid question since I didn't get that many replies. Thanks again. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | I dont know much about the form stuff, just about the massage with the pressure points and chi flow, in any case, I recommend Qigong General Massage by Dr. Yang Jwing-Ming. It can really give you a good understanding of chi, and finding sensitivity for it. I think he also has a book and/or a video on qigong, and I think that one has to do with the excercises and all that, rather than just focussing on the massage aspect. Jwing-Ming rocks! |

Rep Power: 9 | | Suggestion "The Complete Book of Qi Gong" by Wong Kew Kit is supposed to be very good. I've read other books by him and can recomend him as an author.

Rep Power: 0 | | | Thank you for the books you mentioned. I'm working with a friend of mine who has been practicing qi gong for over 30 years. He finally relented and has been slowly teaching me. I think I'm getting farther with him than I was with the instructor. Plus, he is free! That helps my pocketbook (especially when those real estate taxes went up last year). I feel like I'm on an amazing journey that I would like to continue for the next forty years. Any one ever feel like that? I wish I would have started qi gong twenty years ago.
Thanks again for all your replies. They are appreciated. |

Actually, Sifu Wong's chi kung books are "The Art of Chi Kung" and "Chi Kung for Health and Vitality." Both are among the best chi kung books I have read in English.
Perhaps you were thinking of Sifu Wong's other books: "The Complete Book of Shaolin" and "The Complete Book of Zen."

Rep Power: 48 | | | I'm partial to two of Dr. Yang Jwing-Ming's volumes:
1. Qigong for Health and Martial Arts (contains Eight Pieces of Brocade. I own the video of this exercise. It's good. The teaching is accessible to a student who has had experience.)
2. Muscle/Tendon Changing and Marrow/Brain Washing Chi Kung

Agreed. His books, "Health" is basically a reprint of "Art", are great. I've purchased loads of copies for friends, family and students. You can get a copy here: http://product.half.ebay.com/Chi-Kun...40528QQtgZinfo
