I was in that position once. A couple of years ago I was at a Ba Gua seminar and asked the instructor who I will not name to give me a palm strike so I could feel if it really was different from a traditional karate strike. It's important to note that while there are no mystical properties to internal strikes the mechanics of them make them devastating.

He proceeded in demonstrating how the power was 'waved' up the back and placed his hand on my chest. After a moment he stopped waving and all I heard was a sharp Hmmmmph and then I blacked out momentarily. It was the most powerfully I've ever been hit and his students assured me that he only did it lightly. It was incredible. I'm now his student and will definately vouch for the power of internal martial arts.

I know of instances where people "volunteering" to experience such strikes have got way more than they, or the teacher, bargained on.

I'm glad it worked out well for you, but there are teachers out there who have the power, but lack the control to demonstrate safely, and demonstrate any way.

In general I'd advise against letting some one demonstrate internal striking (with contact) on you unless you really don't care about possible side effects - nothing mystical, just the side effects of standing still and letting some one use internal mechanics to strike very vulnerable areas.

I agree with John here. My teacher did a light strike on me one time that left no doubt he could have killed me but didn't have any more result after the strike than some soreness the next day. You have to have the control.

You guys are just STUPID, most ppl can't controll their internal energy to a certain level of unhurtfullness, but it is way stupid to use yourself as a test subject. Try learning it from a different aspect such as with the use of plants (aka living and full of energy) as opposed to using yourself. I dunno about you ppl saying that you let your instructors hit you with an "energy" strike.....sounds like a lot of your instructors may need to re-learn the whole traditional code that comes along with learning to manipulate the bodies energy. C'mon ppl, some of you need to get a clue!!!! People get sick and can actually die from this all the time. Pathetic!
