I think what fuzzy is saying is that improper Qi Gong excercise can lead to a number of problems (physical, emotional etc.) Qi Gong excercise is much more than just breathing and relaxing it's about a mental state of focus and when you reach that point done improperly you can open yourself up to bad mojo. in short just be very careful about self taught internal excercises.

With the additional issue that Qigong tends to require very subtle alignment if you want real benefit.
IMO you could learn eight brocade as Mei suggests fairly safely and get some benefits as long as you don't force your breathing. The standing stuff is great and like ST it is what I would do if I had to choose only one part of my practice. It is fairly easy to learn the basics, too, and if you do enough your body will find the finer adjustments. There can be some emotional discharge stuff with it, though, which upsets some people.
Personally, if you just want to relax your mind the way stretching relaxes your body then I suggest sitting down with a good book/movie and a pot of tea or going for a walk in the park or sitting in the sun by a river.

Rep Power: 29 | | Nah, I think Qi Gong is more beneficial. After my mother gave birth to me she did many Qi Gong exercises and it helped her relieve stress really well (according to her). Maybe she's actually a Taiji master and can kick my ass anyday.

Rep Power: 7 | | My teacher has assembled several chi kung forms from much larger Shaolin buddhist sets. These are yi jin jing (tendon changing) chi kung forms that in their original forms would take hours to practice. He's synthesized these into 4 12-movement sets called Dharma-Zen Chi Kung I, II, III, etc. and they take about 20-30 minutes. There's a free 3 movement sample you can download from this page: http://www.damazen.com/pages/chikung.html. It's large, 19.21 MB, but it's complete with an instructional section and a practice section teaching 3 of the DZ Chi Kung I movements. You can take these and practice them and get benefits from them. You can also ask Danny or I if you have any questions. Having a teacher with you is the best method, but perhaps this DVD sample will work for you.

Rep Power: 5 | | Basic? I figure the most basic qigong exercise would be the Wuji standing one.
Stand upstraight, with your feet directly under you armpits. Thumb touching the inseam of pants and making sure that armpit isn't sealed(armpit should be able to breath a little bit). Knees slightly bent and are not to be straightened during this excercise(at least that was how I was taught).
Now inhale and exhale from the abdomen(dantian) with your tongue slightly the roof of your mouth(behind the little ridges where your mouth dips in. It just kinda fits). When you first start to breath it should feel like your dantian will explode if you keep breathing but it will be easier to do it as you go along.
On the inhale, slowly rise as you breath in and slowly lower as you breath out. You'll probably be a little stiff at first but just slowly relax and you'll start to feel a little wobbly as you move up and down. Pretty soon you'll be so focused on your breathing that you'll just forget that you are moving at all. It'll just happen.
When you are ready to stop, breath in and out (while moving up and down) as usual for a few more seconds, then instead of moving down just simply(and slowly) rest you arms at your sides. Stand still for a few more seconds and you're done. Basic and can be done on a break or anytime you have about 3 mins to spare. You'll feel calmer and have more energy. Light stretching before or after will also help.
I hope this helps. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | if your looking for that kind of stuff just stick to a meditation and relaxation period... try deep breathing, toungue to roof of your mouth (connects your inner meridians or 2 main flows of Qi) whether or not you believe in Qi is your choice but i believe it helps in meditation and other relaxation exercises.
If the meditation doesnt work then i suggest you consult a local trainer and see if he may have some exercises... i have a few but most are just meditation and inner Qi techniques. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | Also doing in the same stance as Sleeping Wolf had explained, stand eyes closed.
position your arms to where they are relaxed, but bent at about a 80 degree angle and have your elbows nearly on your hips.
now its breathing exercise.. its mainly meditation as if you were going to form a Qi ball but your not going to do that.
As you breathe in, try to focus your breathing into your dantian until you feel as though your breathing through it.
ok now stand on the balls of your feet and as you breathe in, rock slightly back words
exhaling you will go slightly forwards and as you do, you can focus on trying to "form" a ball, like molding a clay ball.
keep doing this for as long as desired until you feel relaxed.
I hope i described this accurately enough for you to perform, if not just ask me if u have any problems and i will try to make it clearer |

Rep Power: 100 | | | The "roof" thing is the most mistranslated thing that ever happened to internal practices. You put the tongue to the back of the TEETH and create vacuum.

Rep Power: 5 | | not the roof? Nik, I was not aware of that. So you just put the tip behind the teeth and kinda just suck? I tried it and it makes my toungue stick to roof of my mouth. Is this right? Am I doing it wrong and if so how is it done correctly? Please elaborate. Thanks. |

Rep Power: 100 | | | Like you said, you put the tip behind the upper row of teeth sucking saliva from the TEETH, and that will create tingling and make it stay there. Like you do in boxing so you don't bite the tongue.

Rep Power: 5 | | awesome Thanks. It just felt a little weird But I'm gald I got it right. I guess if the tongue is flat against the roof of the mouth then it would be difficult to bite it. How hard would one have to suck. Pretty hard or just enough to keep the toungue stuck to the roof? |

Rep Power: 0 | | | hmm i had not heard of that.... i had always been taught that the dorsal meridian ends at the roof of your mouth and the abdominal at the tip of your tongue... so likewise you connect the two to complete your body's Qi gong flow... i will try your way a few times to see if there's any change to the practices... ty for telling me this | |
